Gun Cleaning Mats? A waste of money!

I've had this mat for 15 or more years and haven't managed to dissolve it with Hoppe's... at least, not yet. Even with the nice schematic, I still hate breaking down a Garand, lol.

I am one of those large bath towel guys. Is is soft and if I drop something, like a small screw, it doesn’t bounce or ing me to go look for it. Cheap too!

Been using one for over sixty years, ever since somebody destroyed the top of mother's chest freezer with cleaning fluid. I though the abstract pattern and scratches from where somebody tried to clean up the stains looked kind of interesting but I was the only one that held that view. I was also the only one who sat down very gently for the next few days.

I kind of like them, rubber one with the built in trays work good. for quick work the felt ones roll up and weigh nothing, and have a neat logo. saves my kitchen table, but an old towel would probably do the same thing. In the grander scheme of things they are not much money, but - not a necessity by any means.

I've got the same one in AR-15. It's holding up very well. On yoga mats, we use them for covering the fold-up plastic table when at the range. Keeps everything from sliding off.

FOUR pages on gun-cleaning mats?

We really get down in the weeds...
We are all into personal protection but for many of us here gun collecting is a hobby.I remember when I was in the coin collecting hobby.on those forums guys could go on and on and on about which type of 2x2 holders were best. that's just part of being in a hobby.obsessing on details

No one has to get in the weeds if they don't want.
In the immortal words of the legendary Gene Wilder in the classic motion picture Blazing Saddles, "But I do, I do!" (I think that's what he said)

I was simply expressing my incredulity, that in my 19 years on this forum, I don't think we ever dissected this particular topic to this extent. Well, maybe a little amazement on my part that there seem to be some strong opinions on the topic as well.

But lighten up guys, nothing I say should be construed as criticism. I guess we all have our own areas in which we obsess over the details...
