Gun nightmares

I have had self defense nightmares in which the gun doesn't work.

I have had match nightmares in which I have forgotten my gun or can't find the firing line.

I was having recurring nightmares. Where an severely obese woman. Breaks into our house. And pins me down when i was in my bed. And i couldn't get to my gun. I installed a dead bolt on the bedroom door then. The nightmares stopped.

One of the few things "dream researchers" agree upon is that dreams are not directly representational.
SO, seeing a lake does not mean you want to be near water--it may only mean you desire change (or don't--as three researchers, get 5 opinions).

There may be meaning if, in your dream, you are loading 30-06 into a 32 revolver; or you load 10 or 11 rounds into a revolver, and the cylinder never fills (or a magazine never tops off).

The problem, as Ziggy Freud once said, is that, sometimes, "A Glock is just a Glock."

I recently had a nightmare where I open up my gun safe and all my guns are covered in rust. No psychoanalysis, please😬.

It hasn’t happened in reality, but it’s been really humid here lately, which is probably why it’s on my mind. Golden rod, silicon socks, recent CLP and silica gel, so I should be fine…
Little Jack Daniels or Wild Turkey at bed time will cure that ill !!

Dangit, I also meant to suggest that you get pinup styled photo of Hillary and Nancy on your bedstand just prior to cutting off the light.

My nightmare is new Tactical offerings for future shotshow. Currently Im dealing with the aesthetics of the S&W Equalizer, Folding carbine, and 22WMR pistol. Ive just recently recovered from Berettas new variation of gaudy tactical 92fs and 84fs pistols. Things are getting a bit overwhelming. The gen 1 Glock 17 (no rail, finger groves, or front slide serrations) is starting to look good so I may be damaged psychologically. I may have to build a time machine if this continues. Currently Im holding the much maligned Sigma (3rd gen 40VE) to remind myself what a modern designed and sleek budget pistol is suppose to look like. Lord help us all LOL.

Gosh, I'm sorry. Couldn't stop myself. I am a bad person. Please forgive. 😞

The nightmare I have is: There is someone outside threatening me and my family and I grab a good quality, high power, blow their heads off gun but my reloads keep falling apart on me when I try to load the gun. The variant is that I have a good quality gun but I can't find any ammunition for it and can only find a big ammo can of mixed cartridges for other guns which I can't find so I try to shoot a something like .22 in a .44 pistol. Either way I seem to end up at my hugely fancy and complex press frantically trying to load rounds before they break into my house but I am missing a crucial piece of the press.

In real life I keep my home defense and carry guns loaded (with my own very reliable hand loads).

Another dream is: I am assigned to defend a corner a couple hundred yards away making sure no one can pass and the scope / sights are completely off, or sometimes my rifle has no sights at all and I have to look down the side of the barrel to try to aim.

I've had at least one dream where the gun worked very well but ran dry.
I've had ones where the guns would work ok with no issues.
I've had others where the gun wouldn't work or the bullets were ineffective.

The self-defense dreams I don't like involve self-defense with a knife. The knife always works, but even in a dream it's disturbing.

My gun nightmare was a S&W Model 60 I bought new that came with 7 defects straight from the factory, including two that prevented function. One was the trigger could not be pulled because there was metal trash inside the grips blocking the main spring from moving.

How did that get out the door?

Two trips back to the factory sort of solved the problems, but not completely. At that point I had lost confidence in the gun and down the road it went.

One rule about anxiety dreams is that you have to be in your underpants. IIRC, 30% of college students report having dreams of arriving in class and having a test they forgot or a paper due. Also being in their underwear. Homer Simpson went back to school on the show and had a dream of arriving for a forgotten exam in his underpants.

I've had getting lost in a big city, can't find my car. Had gun fights (some successful BTW) but in most, in my underwear - not a sight to see. Many won't admit to the underwear part of their dreams. Probably not sexual but an analog of being exposed and vulnerable due to anxiety.

Most common gun nightmares: 50# trigger, bullets in slow motion, bullets that hit but fail to incapacitate.

I have less gun nightmares if I go to the range at least monthly; maybe that is my minds way of encouraging me to stay proficient.

To address those three specific nightmare issues in real life:
Glock - not a heavy DA trigger.
Bullets in slow motion - 357 Sig Glock 32 with 125 gr. HST at over 1,350 fps
Bullets that hit but fail to incapacitate - I don't know of LE agencies that used 357 Sig switching away from it because it did not perform well in shootings, other factors (weak wrists, cost)

I took a Glocker to the range today, he wanted to shoot a .45 - 1911 pattern of course.
When he asked what make it was, I said it was custom built to my specifications.
BUT that was about 25 years ago, the manufacturers have caught on and nearly all the "features" that were relatively exotic in the 20th century are now common off the shelf.

Had an unusual gun related dream (won't call it a nightmare, those are darker) a few nights ago. Dreamed I had an obscene amount of snakes in my yard. Like Raiders of the Lost Ark level of snakes. I grabbed my AR pistol and started shooting them in the head. Woke up before I had the area around my front steps cleared out.

There was a time I carried without a round in the chamber. A number of times I dreamt that I didn’t have the strength the rack the slide as I was about to get in a gun fight. I haven’t had that dream since carrying with a round in the chamber.

For someone with Ophidophobia, that would be, without a doubt, a nightmare. Beyond a safe full of rusty guns. Unless you have a phobia of rust.

My recurring school nightmare was getting to the end of the semester and finding out right before the end of the semester there was a class I didn’t know was on my schedule but I needed to complete to graduate. Probably due to the fact that I actually wound up taking a class that had a prerequisite, while taking the prerequisite, because I screwed up. I could put some blame my advisor, but I won’t. Can you say “linear algebra and differential equations” and “applied differential equations” in the same semester? It was not pretty.

When I went to school, they told us if you registered for a class without the pre-req they would give you a grade in that class that was equivalent to an "F".

Take them out , one by one , rub them lovingly with a CLP soaked cloth ... tell them you will keep the Rust Devil away ... do it now and no more nightmares ...
Better Safe than Sorry !
Gary
that’s just FUN! probably why I don’t get rust nightmares
