Hey guys!

Dies anyone know where I can find an untreated rag to wipe/polish my gun with? Every rag I see online is treated with a lubricant of some kind.

What kinds of rags are safe to use on blued guns?

Thanks!

Got a couple of old t-shirts, sweats, etc with no printing/artwork on them?

old flannel bedsheets?

I mentioned flannel sheets beacuse they are soft...sometimes plain cotton bedsheets can be ahhh harsh

The "gun rags" that are for sale from any vender is treated with Silicone which is one of the best things you can quickly wipe a gun down with.

It will keep the gun from rusting from finger prints, (sweaty hands), on a short term basis. I keep one in my gun safe at all times and when someone just has to hold one of my guns, it get wiped down with one of these before it's put back in the safe.

You don't need to worry about what they are treated with as long as it's a rag or cloth for wiping guns down with.

It's not really a lubricant, it's a treatment to keep your guns from rusting from sweaty paws.

I use any old rags the wife decides she is going to throw away, ie; shirts, pants, panties, towels, sheets, & such you know, hell I done bought em once I`ll be damned if I am going to buy special rags to just eventually throw away anyway..............

For long term protection after a gun has been cleaned, I use silicone treated rags. For everyday cleaning, oiling, and polishing, then it's cotton cloth diapers. If it's something that needs heavy duty cleaning I have some shop towels that work great for that.

I use a small cotton kitchen towle that I have added Gun oil to, and then store it in a Zip Lock freezer bag.
keep it near my gun storage area, use it to wipe down the metal on the guns before storing them in the safe.
Put the rag back in the Zip Lock after adding oil if neccessary and store it away again.
I have several of these rags bags stored around at the different places where I'll be cleaning or storing my guns.
I have one in My Range box also. I've never had a rust problem or scratched a gun.

I use Flitz Premium Microfiber Polishing Cloths to clean guns and silicon cloths to prep them for storage. Another alternative is to coat the guns with EEZOX which provides amongst the best protection against rust and actually seems to repel fingerprints. Avoid exposure to finished wood, plastics and faux colored case hardening.

I do the sock or stocking thing too. I really like the 100% wool raggg socks, and use them to store handguns after cleaning.

T-shirts - great for rags and bore patches.
Yep,best there is for wiping down a firearm. I keep a couple in a plastic sandwich bag moistened with WD-40 or silicone spray for wiping the exteriors after I handle them. Also keep a few without any oil on them.

A couple posters recommended avoiding fabric with polyester content. Why is that?
It's not as soft as cotton and therefor more likely to scratch, it's less absorbent, and it is more easily broken down by solvents and petrochemicals.

I agree. I have a gun cloth sold with the Winchester name and its specially made for wiping down guns. It won't hurt the bluing or anything else for that matter! Don't believe everything you here, and stop worrying about every little thing. Enjoy your firearm!
