What does everyone pay per year for a club/range membership and what would you consider max price for 100yard range that is used for pistol, shotgun and rifle? Club also has a small pond to fish in and clubhouse for rent.
As you may know from previous complaints about my club I don’t agree with things they do or use money for. This year we had a local college donate enough fill dirt we could build a dedicated pistol range because now if i want to shoot rifle i must wait for handgun and shotgun shooters. Well seeing how they do 2-3 pistol/rifle matches a week, some of these guys come and do mag dumps with AR/AK it ticked the neighbors off and they took the club to the township and the township shut down building of the dedicated pistol range and all the dirt must be used to heighten our current range because the neighbors claim rounds are going over the backstop. The township also wanted the club hours changed from 9am-930pm to 9am-5pm.
This month’s meeting really sent me over the edge. We have 150 members but only 30-50 show for the monthly meeting because any more than 35-40 people you are standing in the back of the club and practically shoulder to shoulder.
Motion 1) change hours from 930pm to 5pm. Club members shot this down. I say good!
Motion 2) I never knew this but club officers, which include-secretary, membership, president, VP, etc. I’d say 8 people actually get their dues and work hours waived and have been getting paid for their “jobs”. They passed this to be moved from $350yr to $500yr.
Motion 3) low and behold 2 of the retirees who soak up 70-80 work hours a year want the work hour dues changed from $20 to $25hr. When a member asked if it made a difference in getting people to work since last time it was raised from $15hr to $20hr the answer was no, there was no increase in others doing work. The members pushing think “it will make people more receptive to work the hours if they increase it”. This passed. Only needed 33 out of our 150 members to pass it due to majority vote of members present. It’s impossible to get work hours because the same 6-7 guys show up Monday-Friday from 8am-noon and do everything. Mowing is done in the evening one week and morning the next. I showed up 4x for evening mowing which gives me 2-3hrs work and the grass was cut that morning. So i just drove an hour round trip and burned $20 in fuel for nothing. We have sent emails or spoke up during meetings and nothing ever happens so i quit showing up, instead i text one of the guys asking if I am needed and just show up late.
Motion 4) The same guy who wanted work hour dues raised wanted the membership to be raised from $65yr to $100 saying other clubs pay $100yr. These other clubs don’t require work hours though. Denied.
Motion 5) raise the yearly dues to $85 but now require $100 in fund raising $ to be donated per member. Fund raising is so the club can buy guns to raffle off in monthly meetings and we only get 20 people if that who buy a ticket. Sometimes the club has only made $30 on a gun raffle.
Seems like to me this place is becoming a clip joint. $365 for a single lane 100 yard range seems a little much to me. I sat down with the club VP this summer and told him a lot of people i know left due to not being able to perform work hours due to retirees soaking it all up from 8am-noon and how they allow 30-50 people out of 150 to decide the fate of things. Send emails, send letters and ask for everyone’s response. I honestly quit going to meetings because if you disagree with someone who has been there 20yrs your literally told F off, nobody cares what you think, I’ve been here 30yrs, etc.
