Has anyone else noticed that the stuff in the junk boxes in gun shops are no longer good deals? I mean the box that most shops have that contains odds and ends, holsters, grips, etc.

I remember when I could go into a gunstore and root around the junk box and find a holster or a set of grips for a few bucks. Every time I have checked out these boxes in the past year or so, the prices are crazy! They want as much and sometimes more for a used beat up holster than I get get it new. Also, there is nothing of quality in them anymore, all the holsters are those crappy Kydex or Codura ones. I am not going to pay $20 for a used Codura holster that I can get new (if I ever wanted one) for $19.99 anywhere else.

The junk box was one of the reasons I would bother to stop at a gunstore even if I wasn't looking for a gun. I enjoyed rooting around and finding a deal on something that I needed or wanted. I am sure I have bought guns just because I happend to be in the store looking over the stuff in the box. It seems like they are trying to squeez every penny from every item in their stores. They have to have at least one deal in the place or there is no reason to shop there. Most gun store around here have gotten so bad that there is no longer any items that I can't get for less (including shipping) online.

I know for a fact that they get most of the used holsters, grips and accessories that they put in those boxes for free from people that trade in their guns. They don't give you one cent more for a gun that comes with 5 holsters, 3 sets of grips and 2 extra mags. They tell you that they are worthless and they can't sell the stuff but then they slap a $30 price on a used holster and try to sell it anyway.

I have seen a few items that I might have bought for the right price but when I asked if they would come down a few bucks, the guy wouldn't budge! If they can't make a profit on an item that they got for free, they really need to find a new line of work.:D Hmmm, I paid $0.00 for this here holster and this guy has the nerve to try and offer me $20.00 for it! How can I stay in business with people like this trying to beat me down in price all the time?

That is my rant for the day. I just had to get it off my chest and see if it is just a local thing or if all the stores are raising prices on their junk box items.

Bargains are far a few these days....I remeber the same thing from a local shop I use to haunt...I hardly do it any more ..As the bargains arn't..LOL

If you find something and are debating with yourself about it..Buy!..LOL Beacause it won't be there next tiime but some one got all this junk piled up some where you know..

Be safe:cool:

I got my first blackpowder rifle (kit) for $45 from the bargain bin. He had it for over 10 years and couldn't sell it. Shoots great and it got me started in smokepoles.

Also picked up some old gun books at very reasonable prices. Can't argue against that.

There's still a couple in my area...

Worth stopping by to check out... NO, I'm NOT saying where:p

Pawnshops are still bargin mines if you know what you have and haggle, the junkboxes in retail gunstores are something like prospecting a "salted" goldmine;) Just enough decent bargins to pull in the suk* - uh, customers .
the rest is overpriced trash. Now days, the retailers sell off their accumulations of 'dead' goods to jobbers who turn around and fob it off to the dumb and gullable at gunshows and fleamarkets:rolleyes:
I've seen gunjunk sold at fleamarkets at prices that would get the 'merchants' laughed out of any self-respecting gunshow. :banghead:

The good stuff is still out there, but it's harder to find among the trash. Shop Carefully.:D
