Gun shopping: what would you buy and why?

You said you are well stocked on hunting weapons so I'd make the 300 blk out third on the list. You said your two other pistols are from spotty companies. As such I'd get the Glock 19 first and the 22 second.

Yes. Both guns have been flawless so far, but I'm still leery of them in the long run. I agree that I need pistols more than another rifle.

Ruger GP100 chambered in .357, either a 4 inch or 6 inch barrel. Because you said "Both of my current handguns are from a company with a spotty reputation. I'd like a nicer pistol." And because you said you hunt hogs. A good sidearm comes in handy sometimes when hunting hogs. And because you said you already own a .38 so you already have ammo to feed the new wheel gun. And because it makes more sense to have one gun that shoots two different calibers. And because stainless looks better than plastic.

I'll wade in...

From your short list, G19 Gen4 ''hands down''
Look at it this way. Fast-forward 2,3, 5 years and you want to purchase something else. Best value at that future date is, the G19.

For a variety of reasonings, but just a few, easy to shoot, ease of finding plinking ammo, resale value, ease of repair, plinking/home defense/ personal carry=multi-tasking...
A G19 isn't a fad like 300Whisper or whatever they call it today, a 22 is nice but you cannot reliably feed the thing-with no soon end in sight.

Just my $.02:)

I'm not a particular fan of any of those choices. But then, they're not my choices. They're yours. Choose the one that tickles your fancy most.

Should you wander off of that short list, though, you can't go wrong with a magnum caliber revolver.

If you have no carry/home defense pistol I would go with the G19. I have that base covered so I would opt for not a BuckMark, but a Mark II target pistol, slab-side or maybe bull barrel. I have a plain Jane Mark II and it has never let me down, over 10K rounds.

Glock 20 with conversion barrels for 40, 9mm, and 357 Sig. A couple of extra mags. Hunt the hogs with it. Use it for home defense. Carry it in the woods. The 300 BLK ballistics are 45 Super in velocity with the subsonic loads, and 357 mag from a carbine with the 125 grain loads. Better penetration, yes. Versatile, yes, but not as versatile as the Glock 20. I know it is not on your list but you asked opinions.

Well, after some careful consideration, I went with the Glock 19. But I came into a little extra money, so the Buckmark shall be had within the next couple weeks.

Thanks. Forgot to mention that a sale price helped sway my decision. Wandered into a place in Tulsa and they had a sale on a lot of Gen 3 models. For $450, I couldn't pass it up.

That's great. At that price, it would have been very hard to go wrong. If you just absolutely detest the G19, you should be able to sell it easily enough.

Anyway, here's hoping you shoot them in good health.
