Gun show observations

With over 4200 tables, they say that if one spent the entire 18 hours that the show is open over the weekend, they could only spend an average of 15.4 seconds at each table.

Be worth it :)

Pretty much, if I ever get organized for that show, I'll stay the weekend to be able to do it right. One of those might-as-wells, given the 5 hour drive for me.

It is a 5 hour drive for me too and I am organized. A few buddies from other parts of the country and I meet in Tulsa and stay until Sunday afternoon. It costs us a bit...hotel, meals, and entry fee, but for me, it's a bargain. This year I had to tear myself away at 1:00 Sunday afternoon. I was still going strong. I learned one important lesson; I don't make nearly enough money! On Monday I was in pain from walking on concrete for so many hours, but a small price to pay. If you haven't gone, be good to yourself and GO!!

highly dislike them. used to like them. not one real bargin to be found anymore. very little oddities that are in working and shootable order. too much jerky, junk jewelry, pakistan made knives peddled as handmade by some fake knife maker, chinese knockoff microtechs and basically junk. too many b&m dealers moving at higher prices than they sell at their store to cover the costs.

its a dead industry. folks like to hold on to the past too tightly. what they dont realize is the past is gone and will never come back. internet has taken over and has basically killed off the decent gun shows and if it werent for ffl transfer regulations would have killed off the b&m dealer as well.

ironcially both the gun show promoters and dealers did it to themselves. theyll never realize or admit it, but they will realize soon enough its over and they got no one to blame but themselves.

i expect many to think im wrong, so be it. i call it as i see it.

Yep, do think you're wrong. Helps if you speak only to the particular shows that you've actually attended, or to your own region.

Judging by comments of others in this thread, at least a few of us can enjoy entertaining shows in which one can occasionally find some good deals.

After attending the blockbuster show in Tulsa and having to tear myself away, I attended it's opposite this past weekend in Topeka, KS. It was worth the laugh when I saw the vendor selling Leaf Guard Gutter Systems. Worth the admission price? I think not.

Trying out an unfamiliar gun type's ergos, trigger feel, action is still a bit difficult when viewing the internet and clicking on a mouse...
No matter how good the prices listed for the remote, digital depictions.

It's not about naively expecting a good deal, it's about access to what our gun stores/shops very seldom, or never have available.
One day most local gun shows will probably be gone. Problem solved.....no more nuisance.

I pay $10 to get in the ones here. Honestly, yes, the prices are high and I usually don't buy much. But I get to ogle and fondle hundreds of firearms I don't normally see at local shops. Usually make a day of it, grab some buddies to come along....it's just a good time to be around and converse with so many people with similar interests. I believe there are two companies that do them, one is terrible and I avoid them, but the other, SGK I believe, does a fine job.

As long as they keep coming I'll keep going.

Those shows in Topeka have been pretty lame for years... You have a better chance finding something good at the Legion Hall show in Perry. ;)
I admire your optimism Sir, going to one so soon after attending the Tulsa show.

Like Thunderchicken said - the MWCA show is pretty decent. However, for the last 6 shows I have only bought bulk ammo if it's a good price. The last gun I bought was a really nicely done Enfield in 35 Whelan, with Weaver 4x scope. A gentleman had it over his shoulder with a "for sale" dowel with $250...!! I checked it out and handed him the cash. THAT was a rare occurrance... (and I love the way my hands smell like old guns and Hoppe's after a show...)

yep a few as you said and less every year. is what it is.

florida market. thought it would be obvious since i have it listed on my location next to my borrowed avatar. guess not my apologies.

its all relative. been to most of them here for decades until i stopped going when they changed as i mentioned earlier. if i went to one of yours you believe is a good one...wonder if id agree or think it was worse than the ones round here?

another point is i dont like to walk around and chit chat hearing lots of kbs and digging through the weeds to maybe find something. all the misinformation and arrogance doesnt rub me well. many like exactly that.......lots of kbs and such. so another relative thing which weights on good use of time and money or not.
