GRAND PRAIRIE (WBAP) - A Grand Prairie police officer in street clothes was confronted in the parking lot of a motel at State Highway 360 and Avenue H just before midnight by an armed man who demanded his wallet, then ordered him to lie face-down in the back seat of his own car. Fearing for his life, the officer pulled his own gun and shots were exchanged.
After a running gunfight through the parking lot and breezeway of the Budget Suites Motel, the unidentified robbery suspect was shot to death. The officer, described only as a veteran of the Grand Prairie Police Department, was not injured.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner is working to identify the dead man and to contact his family.
