Guns and Ammo rank the top 38 states for Gun owners

I see that Wyoming beat out Montana. Well I don't plan to move south, but maybe the winters would be warmer...... I don't think so. I'll just stay in Montana (no sales tax) just high property tax. Be safe all and Thank GOD I don't live in DC or Chicago.

I'm going not preach to the choir on this. AZ gets the highest ranking because of no permitting requirements for concealed or open carry. I'm a GA resident with a CCW license that was actually a bit appalled that I had to demonstrate no proficiency with my weapon to receive my permit.

On the other hand, to ride my motorcycle, I did.

Dat's bass akwards.

You don't have a "CCW" license from GA. You have, currently, a "Georgia Weapons Carry License"...although depending on when you got it it may be called a "Georgia Weapons License" or a "Georgia Firearms License".

BTW: There is no Right to ride a motorcycle in public roads specifically and explicitly protected by the Constitution of the United States of America. The Right to keep and bear arms, however, IS specifically and explicitly protected by the Second Amendment.

Literally millions of people are licensed to carry in this country (or live somewhere where no license is required) and did not need to demonstrate any proficiency, or take any kind of test or training or anything, in order to get that license (or be able to carry unlicensed).

Why does this appall you?

If one must obtain a "mommy, may I?" permission slip from the government before doing something, guess what, that something is no longer a Right, but a privilege.

Also, I would like to see a list of incidents/accidents, committed by individuals with no training/proficiency requirement, that you believe would not have happened had said individuals been subjected to a government mandated training/proficiency standard.

:)

Sorry, how can North Carolina be rated better than Virginia when you have to obtain a permit just to purchase a handgun??

Vermont is the biggest fraud. The NFA rating of 10 is wrong. They are one of only eleven states that ban silencers. Having a complete ban on a widely legal items puts them down to mid pack at best.

They list Ohio as #35? That's bull trash. I think we're pretty gun friendly.

They did get the "no magazine capacity" limit incorrect though. You can't have a magazine with a capacity larger than 30+1 inserted into a firearm here.
I was mildly surprised OHIO was only #35.

Is that because of that constitutional right to own and ride a motorcycle?

Bayesian, the problem we see with mandated training or proficiency for CCW is that it can be abused to become an obstacle by wannabe tyrants.

Easy on VT boys. Proud to be #2! yes, the suppressor ban sucks, but it stems from the Fish and Game. There is a petition going around now, wish us the best.
It is suprising to be rated so high with so many Liberals and granolas around here. Hoping some of you boys move here. Bring your own work as we seem to drive business away. I think the working 5% are supporting the 95%!

Wonder if Mag Pul would move here???

...in the top half, there's only a 5-point spread in points out of fifty.

We're grousing about a 10% difference in an unscientific analysis by a magazine that has to please its subscribers and advertisers.

Every state has some sort of regulation that annoys someone in that state. And everyone is free (so far) to move to a different state.

Alabama is getting better; SBRs were legalized just a few years ago.
One strike against Alabama is that we are officially a 'may-issue' state, since each county sheriff has latitude in setting his own CCW standards. This has been a hindrance to reciprocity with other states.
In practice, though, there are few problems getting a CCW. Open carry, I'm not sure about.

Seems like twitchy criteria to me. Overly weighted on CCW/carry while purporting to address "... best states for gun owners."

Happy to be in their number one listed state - not so happy about the target on our backs for the recognition though.

And they even screwed that up.

They seem to completely ignore whether the minimum age is 18 or 21...car carry without a license...the cost of the license...excessive hoops to jump through like training courses or proficiency requirements...really disappointed overall. They either don't truly understand what affects people the most, or they half assed the hell out of this thing.

There is legislation in the state right now that would make carry in Alabama easier. Change to Shall Issue, renew permits good for 1-5 years instead of just one. Looks like a good piece of bill they call SB129. Open Carry in AL is legal but there are certain towns where it is not allowed which raises a jurisdictional issue with state v local. Never really bothered me since I don't open carry but it is nice if my shirt rides up accidentally I am not taking a trip for brandishing.

I'm sad.. I'm losing my state little by little. Pretty soon it will have no immigration checkpoints and the state will be taking care of 6-8 illegal families in it. I'm slowly loving my new state Kentucky almost daily. But darn, I hate what's happening in Texas. All that Texas pride we have is being chipped away little by little, day by day. I fell like that Indian from the commercial many years ago.... I've got a tear running down my cheek. Take Texas back guys or outdoor hunting sports will soon be hacky sake and frisbee golf. Send the northerners back home to their snow pits.i wanted to retire in Texas, it's starting to look like I'm going yo stay in Kentucky. I never would have dreamed it. Texas should be the leader on that list. To many tree hungers, northern companies and hippies have soiled it. We may never get it back.l

Damn, I wished the state flag in KY wasn't so ugly. But as Texas gets more liberal every day... I doubt I'll be proudly wanting to fly a Texas flag in my location.

Texas 15th? Seriously, in this political climate today? Just.... wow.

We got hit on CCW/Open Carry. Since Governor Goodhair has said he will veto any law that would allow open carry or unlicensed carry, we're kind of stuck. OTOH, it took us 123 years and the Luby's Massacre to get any way to carry a handgun legally, so I suppose progress is being made.

We also have one of the toughest CHL standards in the U.S. with the DPS allowed to take up to nine months to make a decision and a requirement that one be current on all taxes, child support, etc.

What we really need to do is what the citizens of Louisiana did last November: they overwhelmingly voted to make all gun laws subject to a "strict scrutiny" review.

@Ehtereon11B: The proposed change to 'SHALL issue' is great! I don't travel out-of-state much, but our neighboring states recognize the AL permit; the few times I've gone out-of-region, reciprocity has been a factor.
As for OC, I'm like you; it's not big issue, just 'nice'.
