Guns made in countries....that no longer exist.

Czechoslovakia (Now split into Czechia and Slovakia.) I have two CZ-75B pistols made in Czechoslovakia.
Yugoslavia. (Now split into Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, Serbia & Slovenia). I own a Yugoslavian Mauser and owned a Yugoslavian SKS at one time.

I have two VZ-24s of pre WWII origin that are now a 7mm Weatherby Magnum and a 9.3x62mm Mauser.

My previous CZ-82 in 9x18 Mak.
My modern CZ PCR and Czechpoint VZ-58 rifle (7.62x39) were designed many years ago in Czechoslovakia.

Owned a beautifully-blued “East German” Makarov plus a .380 Russian Makarov designed in the Soviet Union.

Also, a Sauer 38H (.32 Auto) built in the Third Reich. First handgun I acquired-still have it.

Had two Yugo M59 SKS plus a Mauser.

I could argue that most of my US made guns were made in a country that no longer exists. But I won't.
You beat me to it...I was going to say California, Oregon, New York, Connecticut, Virginia, Massachusetts...:(

I wonder if “Imperial Japan” would kind of count, since the country changed so much after WWII.

Stay safe.

Interesting thread and great pictures. I can't think of any guns presently in my collection that fit the criteria. I have owned firearms mad in the former Yugoslavian and Czechoslovakian republics.

Beretta owns Stoeger, Sako, Tikka, Uberti and Benelli. Its business management is better than Freedom Group which owned Remington, Marlin, Barnes bullets, and DPMS (I think) before breaking up their cluster and selling some of these companies.

It's a fascinating premise--plenty of polities with new names; but not so many with indigenous firearms manufacture.
Rhodesia comes to mind.
But, most are going to have been importers. Like everything labeled AOI, Africa Orientale Italiana, Italian East Africa, which was Ethiopia and most of the horn of Africa.
With a similar 'ditto' for pre-1946 Republic of China (which had some indigenous, if blacksmith, production, just not often with national markings)

There's a contra-pointe, too for countries that now exist, too. Croatia, & Montenegro come to mind as recent newcomers in the firearms marketplace.

I've an Army buddy who's collecting passion is fine, leather-bound atlases through the ages.

He's Jewish and his interest stemmed from the migrating boundaries of the Middle-East and grew from there.

It's a grand, relaxing time to sip whiskey with him after one of his wife's outstanding dinners and peruse and compare atlases through the centuries.

Too, one becomes a pretty fair hand at Latin geographical terminology.:D

Todd.

How about the Opposite situation?

Imagine having a cannon made by Krupp AG, their official arms company-a company created in the 1500s, which armed a changing mix of dukedoms, Prince-Bishoprics, Holy Roman Imperial provinces etc., within “Germania”.

And Deutschland didn’t quite exist until 1871 under Kaiser Bismarck (they awaited his trip to Bismarck ND, but it never happened...). Their historic fragmentation allowed invasions i.e. the apocalypse of 1618-1648, which helped create their paranoia .

You’ve heard of the dreaded Krupp 88. “FLAK-filled black clouds you could almost walk on”.
There are some private “88” owners: YouTube it.....

Who the heck is "Kaiser Bismarck"?

There are only three German and four Austrian "Kaisers":

German
Wilhelm I (1871–1888)
Friedrich (1888)
Wilhelm II (1888-1918)

Austrian
Franz I (1804–1835)
Ferdinand I (1835–1848)
Franz Joseph I (1848–1916)
Karl I (1916–1918)

Oh, and BTW not all 8.8 cm guns are Krupp designs, The 8.8cm Flak 41 was a Rheinmetall design . . .
