I Keep seeing all these favorite rifle threads. How about one for guns that get the job done?

This one does it all. Target shoots then, take an occasional shot out the window. Then now and then goes on a rough excursion. Then is fully expected to still be on target. I really need a better solution to keep mud out of the can.

Lol. You guys are gonna get this one shut down pretty fast. Seriously though, condoms work perfect for your proposed problem.

All my guns are woods guns/shooters except my Sharps. And it will be once I figure out a good accurate load for it. Just haven’t had time.

I’d say my most used and abused gun is my Benelli duck gun. It’s been a shot gun, a push pole, a paddle, a depth finder, and various other things. And it’s never let me down in the 18 years I’ve owned it.

Mine’s a Colt Trooper 6920 with SWFA 1-4 optic. It’ll do for HD, range, shooting boar, coyotes, and even deer with a heavy bullet and shot placement. (No I don’t actively use it for deer, just saying it could in a pinch)

It’s definitely one I grab the most when discing plots, driving the rtv around, etc. Great all around rifle for my neck of the woods and uses.

upload_2018-10-12_21-7-23.png This one. M17 sporter I picked up at a pawn shop some years ago for $125. Bore was good, and it is a shooter, good old 30-06 with a goofy custom stock somebody glass bedded a long time ago. 1.5x4.5 Shotgun scope gets the job done to medium range. This is my cabin, truck, camping, etc gun. Have taken a few deer and several coyotes to 600 yards. Shoots either my standard Garand load of 46 gr IMR4064 under a Hornady 168BTHP in coyote country, Garand safe 150 gr Sierra SP for deer, and a full house load with the 180 Norma Alaska in bear country. This is one of those strange rifles that shoots every load I've tried to roughly the same POI to 100 yards or so regardless of bullet weight or velocity. Wish I knew that answer, I'd file a patent. Scope is just a cheap Banner, but so far it's held zero through some pretty rough treatment, including a Snowmobile/snowshoe spike camp wolf hunt in Canada. The M17 still works for the Danish ski patrol in Greenland, so I guess it's good enough for me.

I have two git-r-done guns but neither is a rifle

This old BPS has been drug all over creation. It’s a family handmedown that made it to me when I was 15

I built this 7.62x39 ar with the intention of dragging it around everywhere but haven’t gotten there yet

That’s a good idea! It may even seal up after shooting it good enough to keep using it.

My luck it will get big like when you put one on your buddies tail pipe

Shame to say there’s a box of expired ones in my nightstand. :(
Reminds me of a college story... they do puff up really big, especially if filled slowly as what might happen if someone passed out with one on and then had to pee and forgot it...

Medical supplies work well. The “finger cots” are tiny condoms without the lube/spermicide/etc on them. A box of 100 should go a long way. They may end up costing more than a cheapo balloon though. Not sure what the cost is, but they are uniformly sized and shaped so over a regular barrel I know they would be better. Over a can, they may be too small.

My git-r-done guns are far from being rifles. I have 2 that get the nod regularly. It’s all a matter of what activity I’m doing as to which I grab with weight and maneuverability being among the issues. One is a Phoenix Arms hp22a that will take pop bottle tops off at 25 yards after being beaten half to death by riding around in atvs or beating around in brush piles. If I’m going hunting then it’s my single six. Its decently accurate with the 22lr cylinder, but it’s crazy with the mag cylinder in it. I have shot squirrels running along the ground with the mag cylinder installed. I wish the LR was as accurate but mags work fine. I have seen coyotes, squirrel, rabbit, and lots of coons, possum, and even a few turtles in the farm ponds drop to its bark. I have faith that a bow-range shot into the head or neck of a deer would mean I was eating for a few days should I ever find myself in such a predicament.

Awesome. Love this thread. The three I took to the range today all got-r-dun..... Ar15 in 5.56x45, 1991 Win 70 FW in 6.5 x 55 (got a 3-shot group at 100 sub-1/2" with Hornady "superformance" factory 140 SSTs) and Browning A-Bolt II in .375 HH mag with 270 federal power points (dayum that hurt). Ready for hunting season.

My understanding is that some troops went ashore 6 June, 1944 with condoms over the muzzle and front sights of their Garands.

We had a plastic cap that fit the flash suppressor of the M16A1 and we called them Condoms and the other slang terms for them. When you fired they left the rifle. One day we had the opertunity for four of us to shoot previously zeroed rifles at 100 yards with those things on. We all hit the kneeling man targets at that range and they "fell" the plastic rain caps were recovered and three were holed fairly center and one at the edge where it made a 90 degree turn. We believe the air compressed in front of the bullet on firing started the caps off before the bullet hit and that the one guy had his mostly off from that when the bullet got there.

My last military experience with Condoms used for military purposes was at Ft Brag NC. As Cadet on Artillery orientation day I sat with a couple of companies of mixed college students watching a demonstration of the 105 flechette Anti personel round fired from an M102A1 . The target consisted of a crowd of inflated condoms of different brands and colors at several hundred meters. The gun fired and a cloud of dust appeared around the crowd of condom soldier targets. when the dust settled one lone resevor tip waved in the light breeze as the sole survivor.

The narrator for the display then asked "Any questions?"

I raised my hand, stood when recognized, and barked out, "What brand is that, Sir?"

Three separate discussions were had between myself and progressively higher ranking commissioned officers about "conduct unbecoming an officer" after that.

Still seems a reasonable question....

I have two

A Rossi 92 .357 magnum that get fed a lot of. 38s. It has been a snake buster for me. With the 16 inch barrel it's a great truck gun.

My Savage 11 trophy in .308 has been another great one for white tails and yotes.

Sako 30-06 with 180g Accubonds for everything from speed goats to elk. The 24.5” barrel flings them out at 2,875 FPS.

Right at 7.7# with the Leupold 3-9X40 CDS. Just about perfection for my public land hunting here in the Rockies.
