What are your peice-o-crap guns that you bought/traded for/inherited that suprised you that they were accurate/reliable/or didn't break???

I have a RG-10 .22 short revolver that has had over 1000+ rds through it with no problems.  I am actually getting to be a pretty good shot with mine.:D :D It has even actually had cut down .22 LR through it w/ no probs at all. I must of just got a good one out of the bunch. I even kinda like the thing.  :D

Well far from a piece o' crap but my HK P7M8 really surprised me.

I bought one because I wanted the three German Olympics trials pistols and because it had a unique operating system.

What I found was an absolutely spectacular handgun that I shoot as good or better than any other handgun I have ever shot. It is safe, fast to action, accurate and absolutely tiny/easy to conceal.

So what started out as a novelty gun has become a front line carry piece for me.

Not a piece of garbage by any means but the CZ-75 was a real surprise, simply a fantastic handgun. It has no right to be as well made, reliable and accurate as it is for what they cost.

makarov by far, when I first seen one, thought to myself no way is this of
any quality, now after owning a "few" I was proven very wrong.:D

Taurus 941

I have a 22wmr 4" da revolver (28 oz) with a JPoint red dot. I use it for small game and targets. It's a tack driver. This really surprised me and it is now one of my most shot guns. 22wmr's usually aren't too accurate and Taurus ain't exactly Freedom Arms quality.

Marlin 25N...
I expected just a plain ole .22LR that had so-so accuracy. Turns out that nickel sized groups at 75 yards are a regular thing for this rifle (by my eldest daughter not me). That's pretty good for a $145 gun.

Considering it's been banged around a bit and once fell down in front of the bedroom door and a chair and got wedged and jammed the door shut upon which I put mucho pressure before I realized what was jamming the door shut to open and it still shoots nickel sized groups at 75 yards and you can color me impressed.

Guns that suprised you

A VC with a SKS backed a tank with four guys and six machineguns four hundred yards down the road one afternoon. He kept sniping at us, would bounce one off the turrent, we'd open up, he would hide, we'd stick our heads out, wait a while, then crawl out, then he'd do it again. After about two hours of this we pulled the tank about 1/2 mile down the road, two of us dismounted, the TC and driver drove back up and stopped. He did it again, then we eased up the treeline after low crawling across a nasty rice paddy, finally got a fix on him, he fired one time too many. We cut loose with an Ithaca Mod 37 and a M16. He dropped the rifle as he disappeared into a tunnel. The SKS was nasty, worn out, no finish, rattling, wired stock,
rusty, front sight knocked off, piece of junk I've ever seen. I was embarassed to bring it back and report it was what had had us shooting all that ammo.

I shoot a 1950 Russian and a 1964 Chinese Tokarev, both are excellent shooters, accurate, and don't know how to jam.

A Taurus model 82 I was given by my Grandmother when I graduated High School. That was 14 years ago and it's my primary home defense gun as I type this. So reliable it's almost boring.

My CZ-75B. It didn't surprise me, but it surprised somebody that knew what they were doing with a handgun. It came recommended by a retired marine. He guided me in my first firearm purchases while I worked with him.

Upon taking it out to the range (my first pistol. He helped me buy it, clean it, and took me to the range) he commented that it was confused.

"It's a combat pistol that thinks it's a target pistol."

He was putting a 1" hole over and over again with it at 15 yards. Something he wasn't doing quite as well with his Sig 226, Beretta 92, or Browning Hi Power that day. They were about 1.5" holes.

He offered to buy it a few times over the next year. I never gave in. Had me sold in CZ pistols though -- that's for sure.

Llamas. I love these nappy things. I have had a couple dozen and had exactly one that was a POS. Wish I had all the rest back.

My Ruger P89DC.

I knew it was durable, but I was pretty unimpressed by the trigger and the accuracy when I first got it. But the more I shoot it, the more accurate it gets, and the smoother it feels to operate. The trigger has lightened considerably and no longer has the grit & creep it started with.

And it's not because I shoot it a lot and am getting used to it. I shoot it relatively rarely compared to some of my other pistols.

Star Model S .380. My wife has tiny hands, and we went to many gun shops and shows looking for something with which she would be comfortable.

Most compact .380s have short grips, so your pinky is left dangling in the air, useless to counteract the whippy recoil that most compact .380s also have as a result of not having a locked breech. The Star Model S has a locked breech and a grip long enough to fit the entire hand. It's easily one of the most comfortable autos I've ever held in my hand, and it's accurate and reliable to boot. It's a baby 1911.

We liked it so much we ended up owning 3 of them. I'm sorry Star Bonifacio Echeverria of Spain went out of business.

Not a POS, but an old 1950's vintage engraved little Beretta .25 acp that my parents used to have surprised the heck out of me, first time I ever benched it at 25 yards. Groups so tiny, I dare not post them here for risk of ruining any credibility I might have. :uhoh:

While chronographing a bunch of Norinco steel-core and lead-core SP 7.62X39 out of a Norinco SKS over an Oehler chronograph, we (my father and I) were shocked to get many strings with Standard Deviations under 10 fps. Anything under 20 fps is usually getting toward match quality ammo. Needless to say, our groups weren't anything too terribly special. Still, made you wander what a heavy-barreled bolt action in that caliber could be capable of doing with that round. . .

I test-fired some backward-loaded lead hollow-based 148g .38 wadcutters I loaded hot in some .38 S&W cases for my girlfriend (later to be my wife), out of her ancient old 5 shot Iver Johnson 3" revolver that I had given her. At 20 yards, it made beautiful cloverleaf groups! At 25, they began to open up dramatically. At 28 yards, they were keyholing. :)

VZ 24 .380 that I bought for $50. It took a while to figure out how it worked and disassembled, but it was very accurate to @ 60 yds. Even though I more than tripled my money when I sold it, I still kick myself for doing so, and everytime I see one at a gun show, I am tempted.;)

Diito on the Star S. A friend had one his Dad brought back from Spain when he was in the service in the late 50's. Accurate little gun, and looked like a "Baby .45" :D

I shot a friend's Dad's Arisaka Type 38 rechambered to .257 Roberts, and was surprised at the accuracy, considering the dark bore.:uhoh: I now own several Mosin Nagants that had dark bores when I got them, and they all shoot fine.:)

I was once given a Sears Model 200 12 ga. pump (Winchester 1300) that had been sawed off at both ends (but it is legal-I've triple checked!) It has turned out to be a surprisingly accurate & fun gun to shoot, even with 2 3/4" magnum 00 buck.

Marlin 60

I really bought the thing as a beater rifle to let my little brother shoot because it was $60 shipped; I didn't expect the accuracy or reliability of my lightly modified 10/22--I was WRONG, the Marlin is at least the Ruger's equal in both areas.

I have a coupl'a Hi-Point's a .45 pistol and the 9mm carbine both work as advertised and deadly accurate.
On the loser side AMT Back-up in .40 cal, Charles Daly 9mm, S&W model
59.......ALL feed and reliabilty related......

The 80 dollar Mossberg .22 rifles CMP used to sell.

Bought it as a beater rifle to teach the kids on and was very pleased with the accuracy and reliability.

Good stuff.
