Guns You Should Have Bought When You Had The Chance, And Now Regret Not Buying

Russian Nagant 1895 7.62x38 when there were $99. Now cannot find any less than $750. I still have one from 1924.

I've got a few...

Like the OP mentioned... the HK P7. I had a chance about 15 years ago, when those demilled German police issue P7's rolled through, but at the time, $600 was too much. Now it seems like a bargain.

A Dan Wesson Pistol Pac, particularly in .41MAG, but maybe one in .22LR to go with it.

Ithaca 37

AutoMag

HK 91 or 93, MP5, or versions thereof

M1 Carbine.

Belgian HiPower

Bren 10

I know a lot of those are available on the used market, but the prices are just ridiculous. Even things like a nice, clean M1 Carbine are stupid.

There are a few firearms that aren't on that list... because I owned them but stupidly sold them, so they are in a different category.

There was a window of time that you could get a brandy new Dan Wesson CBOB for $800.
I hemmed and hawed and then that window slammed shut and now the equivalent VBOB runs ~$2K

A Mateba with 6" barrel. Semi-affordable when they were being manufactured, but not worth it now.

During the Great Walyworld Gun Clearance of 2020, I acquired a number of guns at really good prices. HOWEVER, I left a 4 Savage Axis rifles on the shelf that I regret not buying. At the clearance price and with a rebate from Savage, they would have been paying ME to "buy" them. Those would have gone a long way to helping me fund some other items on my wish list that I now regret not being able to buy because of limited hobby funds. Those would be a S&W 686-4 Plus and a S&W 617.

This hobby (including reloading) is an endless black hole of items I could buy, but I'm still pretty happy with what I have. I know my inventory is rookie numbers compared to many, but it is what it is.

I was always partial to the S&W Night Guard series of revolvers. I remember people at the time making fun of their features on this board, but I liked them. I wish I had picked up a 396NG or 386NG when they first came out and the prices were reasonable. Now they're in the gold level of S&W discontinued niche revolvers. At least I got my 431PD and 631 revolvers when the getting was good.

Of course, my lottery winning day dream is to get a pristine example of each Night Guard model.

A used S&W 327 Night Guard at a local gun show. Thought about it overnight and went back the next day to buy it, but it was gone.

I wish I had jumped on the feg hi-powers when they were $200, the vz58's then they were $450, and the police trade in smith 66's when they were going to glocks

I do have three Vz.58's now. Only one was when they were cheap, but all three are D-Technik originals imported by CzechPoint.

For me:
1)Even more cheap Russian ammo. Brown Bear, Golden Tiger, etc
2) Anything Saiga before the ban. I just never got around to it.
3) Valtro 1911. I actually ordered one, then cancelled because of the wait time. Stupid.

Wish I’d gotten one of the Russian Nagant revolvers when they were $140. Not a great firearm, but a neat collector piece. I could buy one now at a price that doesn’t break the bank, but I’d enjoy it more knowing how little it cost.

One that comes to mind is a 45-70 built on a Siamese Mauser with a piece of fiddleback walnut that was absolutely gorgeous. It was a consignment that I had listed on Gunbroker for a friend. Super nice rifle that weighed 12 pounds with a scope. Another was a 260 caliber Canadian Ross with their straight-pull bolt that had a reputation of firing out of battery. It too had a well figured stock. Can you tell that I am a sucker for nice wood?

FEG HiPower clone. It was overpriced at the time so I passed on it (maybe $475 in 2018). In retrospect it wasn’t that bad.

As guns go mine are kind of mundane. I’ve been shopping for a target 1911 for a while and PSA had the RIA Match versions for $500 and I didn’t get one. They also had some older Milsurp Walther P38s for $600. I don’t know if the second was a good deal or not and I’m sure it depends on the condition of the individual specimen, but that would have been a cool pistol to shoot.

Over a decade ago, a Cabela's out in western Nebraska had for $699 a complete PSL-54c with soft case, scope, and 4 magazines. Was under 18 at the time and was broke anyway but still, wish I could've got it.

Truck load of M1 Carbines when they were $75 ea down at a local department store.

256 Win - Marlin levermatic when they were almost free.

I have had more than a few Win 94 30-30 rifles. They used to go for $50 ea used back in the day. I should have held on to those.

One more - wish I would have bought one of those 36" barreled 12ga bolt action goose guns back in the 70s when they were on racks about everywhere for a few bucks ea.

A broom handle Mauser.
Shop had a pallet of them.
I see them a lot in the movies.
Feel bad about it every time.

Had the chance to buy a Single Six that had a SSN scratched on the grip frame for only $200. Regretted that one. I also had one on layaway that was an early New Model, and I put my funds on something else. Regret that one some too.

The same store had police trade in Smith & Wesson 4006 pistols for cheap. My buddy got one but they didn't have another. It wasn't long my buddy swapped me and I loved it. Then I sold it for something more "cool".

I had a Weatherby Mark V Deluxe in 270 Weatherby Magnum for a while. I sold it and got an AR or something. Regretted it every since.

I've regretted a lot about my gun swapping in the past.

So many this decorum prohibits listing them . I do however kick MY own rear for failure to acquire a Winchester Model 1873 ,so as to have a completed period set to match MY pair of Colt's SAA 1877-1881 .44 WCF also known as 44-40 in factory Nickle no less .

I bought those from the son of a real cowboy in AZ. ,who's father punched cows until 1915 . The Son was 90 in 1977
