Not sure what happened......
Thanks for your reply, parasite.
I'm not sure the what, when, or how of the breakage. She sent me an email:
I took my gun to the range a few weekends ago and the de-cock and the firing pin fell out of it.
I don't know if it fell apart while she was shooting it, or when she was operating the decock/safety lever, or what. Her boyfriend looked at it and said he couldn't fix it. But I doubt that he knows much about the mechanics of how a gun works. I assume she still has the parts that "fell out of it".
The gun is a Russian IMEZ IJ-70 17A commercial version (single stack with adjustable sights) that was imported in the mid-1990s. I bought the gun new and never had any problem whatsoever with it (until now). It had about 500 rounds of UMC yellow box ammo thru it.
I read some reports some time back about the decock/safety levers coming off some of the Bulgarian Maks, but I don't recall the details.
I initially told my daughter to bring the gun home to Midland with her when she comes in May and I would either fix it or get it fixed. However, if I can find a good gunsmith in close proximity to her home, I'll just tell her to get it fixed there.
I have a schematic of the Makarov, and unless a part is really broke, I can probably put it back together. But until I get my hands on it, I don't know what the problem is.
