Most of the threads on the P30 are a few years old, so I thought I'd toss in an updated one.

I just bought and put through its paces a P30 today. Admittedly, I'm a Glock and revolver man but I have a personal need for the features and functionality of a DA/SA semi with a decocker.

None of the praise for the H&K P30 is hyperbolic. For me, it's the best fitting (ergonomically speaking) most beautiful fit and finish duty semi auto in the world. In stock configuration, it's incredibly accurate with rapid sight acquisition. Admittedly, after carrying a G17 as my EDC for years, it's easy to be impressed with a more accurate gun. But ergos and sight acquisition (and of course tighter tolerances) make a truly useful and functional difference, even at basic self defense distances (7-15 yards).

No need for me to blabber on. The P30 is a fantastic gun. And yes, it is worth the extra money.

I don't really see what this does that the classic USP can't do equally well, but the P30 is a fine gun. HK combat pistols are some of the best LOOKING guns of their class.

I'd agree HK combat pistols are some of the best LOOKING, in addition to being some of the best PERFORMING.

The P30 was envisioned by H&K as a product improved USP to update that models shortcomings following in the footsteps of the P2000

1. A less than obvious upgrade is the inclusion of a non-proprietary accessory rail
2. It was one of the early adopters of interchangeable backstraps to fit different size hands.
3. Perhaps the largest change is the Nills designed grip panels...a welcomed move away from the 4" x 4" "feel of the USP
4. Doing away with the cheese grater front strap treatment was just a nice extra

Concur with this. As one who was issued the USP for years, I hated it and feel the P-30 is a HUGE upgrade and a far superior pistol.

I've had my P30 9mm for over 2 years now and IMHO it is a better pistol than the USP40 I used to have, although I wish I still had that one. My P30 is super accurate and reliable and that modular grip setup works great with my large hands

If you have large hands the USP and P30 will be equally shootable, with the P30 being more comfortable but not necessarily any faster or more accurate than the USP. I get along great with the USP grip but I wear XL gloves even though I'm only 5'10". If you have small to medium hands the P30 is without a doubt the better pistol. If you're buying pistols to issue to a wide range of shooters the P30 is the better pistol. It is simply more adaptable to a wider range of people. I just wish the stock P30 trigger was better. HK knows how to make a nice DA/SA trigger, just look at a USP Expert; they can also do an excellent striker trigger like the P7 and VP9 series. For some reason they refuse to with the P30. At least the LEM gets close to being good if you can find one.

I like it too, but prefer the "L" variant with the longer barrel. I do wish it held 17 rounds of 9mm though considering it's very long grip length.

I had a USP for awhile but with small hands I never did get a comfortable grip on that gun. The P30 is definitely an upgrade over the USP.

Congrats on the P30. I have the P30LS and love it. I wear XL gloves and for me there was no comparison shooting the P30/HK45 versus the USP and I tried both at same range trip more than once and bought the P30 and HK45. I love HKs but no desire to purchase anything USP series.

The one area IMHO that the P30 cannot touch the USP is in the trigger.

The USP has a much shorter reset and more "match grade" options. The P30 trigger can be made lighter by swapping springs and you an swap out parts, but the reset can't be improved without seeking "processional" help.

I've got a p30sk. Love it. Now I want a P30L. May ditch my VP9 in favor of it.

Op, i can understand your feelings for your P30. I've had my P30 v3 for about two years and love it. I am able to adjust the grips to fit my small hands, the pistol is incredibly reliable and is one of the most accurate of my pistols. I have become an HK fan for sure.

I love my P30's P30L's and VP9's. Fantastic quality, ergonomics and accuracy with all 3 handguns, I don't know which I like best. I am hoping for a P30L Expert or P30L Elite to follow in the footsteps of the USP Series so I can experience HK's best modern 9mm with a Match grade trigger, wouldn't that be something!

I just got an e-mail from my favorite FFL that he got my P30L V1 Light LEM/Night Sights in...I can't wait to fill out some paperwork and get that bad boy to the range to punch some holes in some paper!

FWIW, I LOVE HK pistols. I've previously had a USP Compact .40, a P2000 V2 LEM, and currently have a VP9. I'd really like to get a P2000 V1 LEM in the near future too.

That's the configuration I want! Yes, I'm jealous. Congrats man.

Finally got around to picking up my P30L. I should be able to get it to the range tomorrow for a quick blasting session!
