I am revolver guy at heart...I really love Wheel guns...next in line is Sigs...I have a 220/225/228 and a 239 and I love everyone...the 228 is my general purpose carry weapon(along with my Model 66 2 1/2 barrel)...but I have been thinking about carrying a .45acp but I think the 220 is a little big for me to conceal around here most of the time...I know that Sig make the 245 but I have heard that there are some problems with it so I have been hesitant to buy one...The other day I saw a used H&K USP Compact in .45 acp for around $550...it was in super condition...Now to the question...How do the H&K's compare to the Sig's( please try to be un baised)...Also I need opinions on the Sig 245...The H&K does look good in that case...I never owned an H&K...I have shot the USP Compact in 9mm and it shot as good as the 228...Thanks for the help with the comparsion...

I prefer the USP .45 over any Sig .45. They are very accurate and quite reliable. You can carry the USP cocked and locked too.

i really dig my UPS compact. (.40S&W) complaints of gritty triggers are common and true, but it does smooth out after about 2,000 rounds. mine has been dead reliable. i like Sigs too and have rented the 245 but i found it to be too top heavy for my taste. i think the USP has better balance. just an opinion there. i like the fact that the USP can be had in just about any configuration you want. with safety, without safety, DAO, SAO, etc. plus you can get the LEM if you want. i've heard lots of good things about that but have never tried one.

$550 is a great price for a .45 Compact. i'd jump on it. they go for over $700 new in my neighborhood.

USP's are a bit blocky but they're built like tanks. i say go for it. you won't regret it.

I've tried the HK's and all I can say is they are boringly reliable with almost all types of ammo you can find. We even had a squib lodged on the barrel and we fired another shot, the barrel wasn't even damaged. Great choice for a gun.

well seing as I have both a SIG 220 and an HK USPC .45 I will give you my opinion.
Accuracy: SIG over the USP, barrel length is probably the main factor here.
Reliability: HK, the SIG is very reliable as well but the design seems more apt to damn in various conditions, more so than the HK.
Weight:HK, Poly frame helps alot but still not "light"(has a heavy slide), and the alloy frame of the SIG makes it feel lighter than it should be.
Concealibility:HK shorter Overall lenght by about 1/2", grip is about 3/8" shorter on the HK.

Lows:
HK, Follow up shots take more skill and more time than that of the SIG and I dont recommend +P ammo...it makes it real "snappy". Heavier than a Glock. The mag release is not of "normal" type therefore under high stress situations you may find yourself trying to push in the lever rather than push down.
SIG, Bulky. Decoker only, no cocked and locked carry. I find the slide release/catch lever to be in an akward location. The mag release should be alittle taller.

Highs:
HK, smaller, easier to conceal. All the controls are oversized an in an optimal location. Possibly 10rd mags are on the way. Light rail, for low light situations one may come in handy. Can carry cocked and locked.
SIG, Interchangable grips, Hogue rubber available. extremely accurate, about equal with my high dollar custom 1911. Very good trigger. Light weight but very contrable.

I hope I didnt leave anything out but I may have, if you have any question feel free to ask.

For me, the trigger reach is an important factor. The H&K is easier for me to get to the trigger--especially if carrying C&L.

To help the trigger pull in double action mode, wolfe has a good spring selection, usually one or two pounds down from stock weight will make a significant difference. Just test with your carry ammo to make sure everything is reliable.

Either pistol is a fantastic choice--it's not like deciding between a jennings and an H&K.

Both are good. HK is a little bit lighter but just as bulky.

Really comes down to whether you want an aluminum crunchenticker or if you want a plastic cocked & locked piece that can crunch and tick :)

The plastic on the HK really bothered me. I couldn't stand the way it felt. But if it doesn't bother you then you should go for it as the gun was excellent.

The HK USP is a well designed firearm. It is also very overpriced for what it is. Mine had a trigger that actually creaked when pulled. I sold it for what I paid to someone else.

Solid pistol, but not worth more than what you'd pay for a Glock IMHO.

Greeting's All-

Some very good input thus far! As you probably know, I'm a big
SIG fan; and with that said, I see NO reason not to CCW a P220!
I'm 5'10-1/2", currently at 219 lbs and can CCW the P220 with-
out any problems. I owned a H&K USP-F in .45 ACP for awhile,
but decided it was just too dang large for CCW carry. My current
P220 is a 1995 production model, that I've carried both on and
off duty. As stated above, the edge in accuracy goes to the SIG;
at least in my hands,as I'm very comfortable with this classic P-
series firearm. I've never owned (or shot) a USP-C in any caliber
so I can't compare the two; but I can (and will) recommend the
SIG P220 to anybody that will listen!

Best Wishes,

I ordered a P245 and the H&K compact at the same time - I kept the H&K. I have a few 45's (Colts, Kimber, Les Baer, Glock, Sig P220) and only two of them have been 100% reliable - the H&K (7k rounds) and the Les Bear (2k rounds). These two have fed, fired and ejected everything I've put in their magazines.

I love the Classic P series also Dan and I would not want to sell my 220 for any money...I carry the 228 almost daily and am wanting a .45 in a frame about that size..I would like opinions on the 245...it would be my first choice because of the fact that I am a "Sig" lover and am used to there manual of operation...I have heard several local say that there is problems with the 245 but no one ever goes any futher with that statement...may be I should check the Sig forum...another negative for the USP-C is that I personally do not like plastic guns...some love them, I don't...as a side note I have never had a single malfunction in any of my Sigs(220/225/228/239)

The Sigs are fine guns in my opinion and experience.

However, I own a USP9F and a USP45C that have been 100% reliable regardless of ammo, weather or shooting conditions.

Can't say the same for the Sigs I've shot. Thats not to say that they are problematic.... just a couple of jams on the last round with em.

Either way you'll be happy, but given the inflated membership fee to become an HK owner... I'd jump all over that deal!

Greeting's Again All-

Karate my friend, sorry I wasn't paying more attention to
the original thread regarding the SIGARMS P245. I've never felt
the need to own a P245; as the old faithful P220 has performed
flawlessly.

Speaking of owning SIG's in general; I've owned 2X P220's, a
P226 (9m/m), a P228, and a P229 (.40 S&W). The only two I
kept were both West German SIG-SAUERS: a) the P220, and
the b) P228.

I didn't care for the SIGLITE night sights on the P226 or P229.
I didn't care for the "European" grip angle of the P226. I don't
like .40 S&W caliber weapons. But to sum up, each his/her own
if you like 'em; I wish you well.

Respectfully,
Ala Dan, N.R.A. Life Member

I am not 40S&W fan myself...all of my Autos are either 9mm or 45ACP...I have never tried the Siglite night sights but I have heard enough from this board to no that I probably would not like them...it seems (Dan) that your taste are similar to mine my first and still favorite is the 220 followed by the 228...I only kept the 225 because it has never been fired and it is marked West Germany...the 239 is for my wife and daughter to shoot...but I have been wanting a 226...I figured that if I like the 220 and the 228 I would love the 226...is not basically a 220 only in 9mm...I have never looked at on every close...I was going to wait until the AWB was lidted in September to start looking for one
