I want to get another 9mm and I have been thinking about the Sig 226 SA/DA. I had a Sig 245 years ago but did not really care for the trigger.

On the other hand I was also thinking about the H&K P2000.

Of those of you that have either the Sig 226 and the H&K P2000, can you tell me why you purchased your gun.

What is it about your pistol (SIG 226 or H&K P2000) that made you buy it over the other guns out there.

Please give details.

I have both, and it's hard to say one is more of a favorite than the other.

The 226 is one of the nicest shooting 9mm's out there today. Nice grip, controlable recoil. Triggers are decent, and with a good trigger job can be make to be excellent.

The P2000 (mine's LEM) is ligher and slightly smaller, thus it's a bit easier to carry. The recoil is good for a polymer gun, but not as pleasant as the alloy 226. The LEM trigger is decent, the DA/SA (owned one once) was not good IMHO, and there's little that can be done to improve either the LEM or DA/SA if you don't like them (you can lighten the LEM but that's about it). Ergo's aren't quite as good as the 226.

Both are made by reputable companies.

The P2000 gets a little more usage from be simply because of its size and weight advantages. I wouldn't hesitate to buy either though.

Edit: Forgot to add that the P2000 does allow you to change the grip backs in order to help fit the gun to your hand. I still like the ergos of the 226 better though.

I prefer the 226. It fits my hand better, and while I don't really care for the double action trigger I like the single action.

I was issued the P2000 for LEO work, and put a ton of rounds down range with one. Ours had the LEO triggers, which were the same pull every time. Some of my classmates really like the triggers, but I didn't care for them.

Both guns have been completely reliable, and in the right hands both are capable if really good accuracy. I've seen guys take out coffee mugs at 50 yards with one shot from the P2000.

To me it would just come down to how it fit my hand and the trigger. I have not had enough trigger time on other trigger variations on the P2000 to judge them, but they may be more to my liking.

If the gun fits you and you like the trigger, buy that one.

Both are great guns. However, they IMHO are better suited to the .40 than the 9mm. IN a 9mm I'd get a Glock 19/19/26/34.

I have an HK P2000 V3 in .40 that I bought instead of a Sig P220. I bought it because it was a little more lefty friendly. It took me a while to get used to the trigger but I love it now. About 2500-3000 rounds through it with no malfunctions at all. The P220 is the only Sig I've shot but I wouldn't hesitate to get a Sig as they are very nice as well.

I purchased a HK because, well I am one of those guys that just has a thing for HK. That said I voted the SIG. The P226 is a hell of a gun.
