I have reviewed several threads looking for good and bad experiences with these two manufacturers. I realize that both make excellent firearms, but I seem to see more negative on Sig than on H&K. I have it in my head that I "need" a P226 or a USP (maybe P30). I have held both. Both feel great. Sig trigger seems better. Like safety/decocker on USP, don't like slide mounted decocker on P30 but like grips better. From what I have read here and on TFL, I would think I should get the H&K. Thoughts???

They should both serve you well. I wouldn't worry too much about internet opinions and just go with the one that fits you best and that you shoot best.

But since you asked, my experience has been better with HK both in reliability and customer service.

I really really can't get enough of my USP. you will be very well served by either, but the USP is a fantastic pistol. mine wears the Hogue grip sleeve, and it feels great together. it makes the grip look a little chubbier but it's chubby in all the right places, the gun crawls into my hand

Not Making a Bad Choice

This is like saying I get to "keep" Jessica Alba or Jessica Simpson. Your not getting a bad deal. It's all about what you personally like.

However since you addressed CS I will say that I've been treated (even before becoming a dealer) with a great deal of good CS from Sig.

Gunnies wouldn't joke about HK hating people if there wasn't a lot of truth to that. I personally will not buy an HK new until they release a UMP/USC that will accept full size magazines. And I don't think it's a mistake to recognize that they will not sell their "military" rifles to civilians, even if they are just a glorified gas piston AR.

Sig supports citizens, but I'm a fanboy.

The 226 has been around a long time, has a great reputation and is truly a wonder to handle. Hk has also been around a long time. Go with you instincts.

I've seen both break while on the firing line like I've seen pretty-much every brand of gun break sometime over the past 20 years.

There is no such thing as "best", it's all subjective.

Get the one that fits your hands the best and shoots the best for you. Don't worry about the name, they both have great reputations.

I have a full sized HK USP .40 and the Sig 229 .40 and either one is a good choice. Both are accurate, solid handguns and will serve you well any time they're called on either at the range or in more dire circumstances. To me, the Sig seems a little more "refined" in the finish, the trigger and the overall look, but the HK holds it's own with it's ruggedness and simplicity. I wouldn't hesitate to carry either one on any given day.
Like the other guy said, it's like deciding between two overly beautiful women - there is no BAD choice here.
I'd say, take the one that naturally points better for you, and if that's a tie, then flip a coin, buy the winner and start saving fo the other one. ;)
Good luck!

Both are excellent guns.
Try both and get which is more accurate and comfortable in YOUR hands.

I personally prefer HK; in large part b/c I'm Lefty, and also b/c I don't really like DA/SA guns.

Both are terrible..

I suggest you buy them and send them to me for...disposal.

Please?

come on, they are both horrible I tell ya, horrible.

Thanks for the replys everybody. I went to the local cabelas and then a local gun shop after work and held the P30 again. Then I picked up the CZ P01. Around $500 for the CZ and $800 for P30. Now I have another dilema.
Any more comments or ideas would be appreciated.

again even with the addition of the CZ you cannot go wrong with any of the three. I shoot a CZ right now, but I am on the hunt for a good Sig, but in the back of my head I want a HK

I much prefer HK...I've owned several over the years...still have 6 in the stable  and a combined 110,000 rounds!

I cast my ballot for the two-tone SIG P226R just two weeks ago.

LOVE IT.

I also liked the HK, but I've got enough fantastic plastics. I wanted another metal-framed gun. (Especially since I was buying .40S&W)

I have a USP 40, Sig P220 and CZ75b. While they are all different calibers, comparing the platforms I would say it is between the CZ and Sig. If you can afford it I would get the Sig. If you really like the CZ buy it and put the extra $ towrds ammo. Either way you will not go wrong. I like my HK, but it does not compare to the other two.

H&K USPs feel kinda strange in my hands. Too heavy towards the front. But I guess it depends on what you are used to. SIGs handle much better for me, though. That's what I would choose. But SIGs are also a lot more expensive for me :(

You won't go wrong with either brand. I own both, and they do each have their strong points.

I prefer the decocker on the Sig. It allows you to ease the hammer down, with the USP it falls hard on the safety notch.

Accuracy is outstanding with both, with the edge going to my USP .45. 50 yard accuracy is incredible with CCI Blazer Brass.

The Sig does have the better trigger and ergonomics (for me), and is the easier of the two to master. I can go six months without shooting my P226, pick it up and start shooting great groups right away. The H&K takes a bit of warm up.

The Sig does need a little lube on the rails, the USP could run dry like a Glock.

I do love the way the USP is built. I have great faith in that pistol, come hell or high water. The USP series may be on the way out, The time is right to get one while you can.

The Sig is so smooth and feels 'just right'

I can't decide between the two so I have to own both.
