Anyone have one? I just laid one away with a heavy rifled slug barrel (looks big enough to serve as a 37MM gun on the old Stuart tank!) Hows the durability on these and the recoil?
I've got an old .410 I used to teach my nephews how to shoot. They seem pretty durable to me. Never had any problems out of it. A friend of mine has a 10ga, and it hurts.
The rifled slug guns are really accurate with sabot slugs. I have and hunt with one. They are a little heavy, but they group 3 shot touching at 50 yards. I have used other Pardners as well. I learned how to hunt on an HR Pardner in .410. They are very rugged, simple, and safe for beginners (and experts).
The shop I do work for has sold several of the rifled deer guns.
They don't come back and I see the owners buying sabot slugs again and again so they are getting some use from the guns.
Everybody says the recoil isn't bad, even with loads like the Winchester sabot gold loads and they are some serious kickers.
Guys say the muzzle blast is pretty loud because the muzzle is close to your ears so you may want to consider a good set of electronic muffs to go along with your new shotgun.
If it's the Ultra Slug Hunter barrel (sounds like it from your description) the gun should be quite accurate. Usually USH owners love their guns and I have heard nothing but good things about their accuracy (touching bullets at 100+ yards).
I just picked up a 20 gauge heavy barreled model (Ultra Slug Hunter). It's accurate (five shots make a one ragged hole at 25 meters) and recoil isn't too bad. It's certainly worth the $150 I paid for it. My only complaint is the price of the ammo: $2/shot for the good stuff!
I've had my 12ga 'barn gun' for about 9 years now, and it's a thumper. I can shoot it without much trouble, but I'll be nursing a bruised shoulder for a couple days after a day of slingin' buckshot.
I'm gonna slip on an aftermarket recoil pad, which will also bring the pull length up to where it needs to be anyway.
I'm also going to pick up some 12ga short loads, and maybe a 20ga adapter, so my wife won't beat herself up with it if/when she tries it, and when I'm not really in need of 12ga.
Ummm, the Ultra Slug comes standard with a decent recoil pad and a steel bar in the buttstock.
This balances the gun at the receiver and adds a good amount of weight, almost two pounds.
H&R uses the Pardner designation on both the single barrel guns and the Chinese import pump gun.
If you have a standard non-pad Pardner I would suggesta Simms Laboratory 'Limbsaver' recoil pad, slip on or screw on.
These pads are the best of the best for reducing felt recoil at shoulder level.
