Since I have a day off, I called CAI to pick up some ammo and (hopefully) a few other things.

Here are some highlights of the conversation that ensued:

"I'd like two boxes of your AMO39 7.62x54R CZ 147gr."
"We have a $75 minimum."
"Okay."
"Well, we have a $75 minimum."
"Okay - well, the boxes are $80 each."
"WELL DO NOT SAY BOXES! THIS WHOLE TIME YOU HAD ME THINKING BOXES!"
"Sorry. But you don't sell Czech 7.62x54R in boxes."
"Say CRATES! What you mean is CRATES!"

......

"I see that you have some air rifles, AR003. Can I get one of those?"
"Which one do you want, the Good or Very Good ones?"
"What's the difference?"
"Why don't you read the catalog?"
"I'm looking at your website right now. The description is exactly the same for both."
"Read the catalog."

....

"Okay, you've all the info you need - what's the total right now?"
"I have no idea."
"You have no idea."
"I have no idea. Look, I'll just enter it in the computer later."

....

Hehhe -
This is in contract to my conversation with another guy, I believe his name was Keith Hendrickson. That guy was awesome... this one, his name is Herb... well... I had this mental image of someone with a ball peen hammer and 10 thumbs doing "gunsmithing".

The sales staff are in Florida. The drunken monkeys work in VT. The computer system doesn't always work.

Box means box, case means case or crate. Not the salesmans fault IMHO and you then berate him.:banghead:

Stupid people tend to annoy me.
Yep

I always order on the website or call my rep: Deanna Furman.
She is great and will give you the straight dope on what, when, and if something is available.

They... they don't sell that ammo in boxes. At all. It's not an option. It isn't available. It can't be had. It doesn't come that way. He even said the part number (AMO39?) when he told the guy what he wanted. If the century simian can't get past "box" in the description (by, for instance, inputting the part number in whatever computer field gets the ball rolling for the sale, which would assumedly result in the displaying of its price, and thereby avoiding the issue of the minimum order entirely), then he deserves to be berated, because he's not working with much more than the brain stem, is he?

After he told me that I wanted CRATES, I would have told him, "Okay, what I actually want is another sales rep, can you arrange that please, or shall I just call back after you are off-shift?

I called for some surplus .308, and was told "that is being sold as corrosive", I said it didnt say that on the website, were they actually corrosive?, he says again "that is being sold as corrosive"
I said no thanks.

The conversation posted has the salesman berating HIM. The rep should have politely asked if he meant the blahblah round crate/case. Brusquely correcting customers is not a desirable feature in the customer service field. :banghead: indeed.

They do sell 7.62x54r in 20rd boxes.

maybe not that specific type but they do sell it by the box.

You've never ordered from Century, have you....Yes, they sell ammo by the box. They also sell it by the crate, and by the pallet, and by the truckload too. The rep probably wasn't using his computer, he was probably writing it down to enter later. I'd bet dollars to donuts that the computer system was down, which seems to be a regular occurance with Century. Heck, the invoices are still printed on pin feed extra wide paper.

Brusquely correcting customers is not a desirable feature in the customer service field.

Century isn't in the customer service field, they are in the "selling boatloads of surplus" field.
No, their sales reps aren't always going to whisper sweet nothings in your ear when you talk to them. You pay extra for that when you call resellers....

With crap like this posted on the internet about them I am surprised they still sell to the public and C&R's. I't amazing the folks that have to complain about them but want their cheap prices and shipping.

I have to agree about Deanna she is super!
