Had a good scare tonight...short story long...

KreigHund:

First, as someone else pointed out, one thing stands out.

You did something that a lot of people can never bring themselves to do--you saw your fear, you confronted it head on, and overcame it, forcing yourself to think and act as rationally as you could, given the circumstances. Hats off to you for having more gravitas than a lot of older folks in that instance.

Now, here's some food for thought:

A lot is said about intuition being somewhat silly, and having that feeling meaning next to nothing. I beg to differ.

You see, your eyes and brain see a LOT more than you think. You just don't concentrate on it enough to notice.

Thus, intuition usually means that you have seen or taken note of something with your subconscious mind. Translated:

There WAS someone there.

As was also mentioned, you did well by backing away to a position of strength. Yes, you should have stayed inside. You should also have alerted someone else inside, and called the police.

I second the procurement of some strong lighting. Have some outside, and also get one of the plug in spotlights of at least 500K candlepower.

Do NOT attempt to go into an area like that yourself, and NEVER attempt to clear a building or home by yourself, unless you have to get to a loved one.
This is something you do NOT want to do yourself. When I have to clear a building, there are always two of us--one in front with duty gun, and one in the back with either shotgun and buck as the first round, or an AR ready to go.

In any case, you did fine. You'll do to ride the river with. ;)

Glad every thing was ok and yes staying in the house would have been a better move I think.

Any way I am also a chain maille worker. Maille started to go out long before guns were around. As soon as quality bows were use in combat maille lost most of it protection. Then came the cross bow with that maille was all but use less (as was alot of plate armor).

Frankly if I made a nice shirt out of chain I don't realy think I would worie much about any one being able to shove a knife into me (where the chain covered any way). Now if some one was runing at me with a large blade (a sword) I would definitly try and get as glansing a blow as posible.

Yes chain will not stop bullets. I wonder though if wore chain over a BP vest if it would dramaticly help stop the bullet. Maby one of you guys with a ton of money can put a vest and a chain shirt on a dummy and find out for me :)

hcker:
lose the chain and keep the BP vest. maille would be too heavy and noisy. might dull blunt impact a bit, though. and keep it inside the vest, not out.

by the way, i'm a mailler too. =)

Yea I was thinking it would blunt the impact and help. Of corse its not to tactical (noisy like u said) but for some one who has no concern with tactical (bouncer at a club maby) then it might offer that extra level of protection.

Good job, Napoleon.

Yeah.

So why did you stop taking your Zoloft? WOW!! Crazy, I tell you. I am sorry buddy but if it was me in your back yard and you come at me with a "aluminum sword", unarmed I think I could take you. But with a gun you would be outta luck.

Hay man, next time, wake your parents up. Or call the police. Your not Mel Gibson and this ain't Scotland!!

Nope, original mod 1906.

I dont think you should speak until you let someone take a swing at you :) Just like you could withstand a .223 straight to the chest, right?

Seriously though, if im a little critical its becuase aluminum, although softer than steel, is harder than flesh.

Personal note, I wouldn't bother with a swing when you can punch nice holes with a good thrust from further out.

Makes the material less relevent, just need a pointy wedge, not a fine edge.

Hey, I made a sword rhyme. :D

Ok, we will address a few things here. First off, if you are trained in Martial Arts that's one thing. But I am sorry when i read your story I just had a vision of a young boy, going out into the backyard with a giant Aluminum Sword!! Ordinarily I would be okay with this but it is how you presented it. I must give you credit for even trying to rectify the situation on your own. But in all honesty you should have gotten your parents up or called the police.

As far as the whole .223 to the chest thing, I'll let it slide this time.

Just an F.Y.I. you know you'd be much more of a "man" if you stuck me with your sword!! :neener:

Please Napoleon leave the crime fighting to the pro's or at least I guess you could always sik your "liger" on him!!! :neener:

I'm also one of the few people in the U.S. who can accurately throw a butterfly knife. The move I'm known for is to throw both of them at the same time at a 3" red circle on a moving target 40 feet away and nailing the dot with both of them. With two sets of knives, I'm fast enough and accurate enough to defeat most men armed with a handgun or carbine inside of 40-50 feet. Still, I prefer my .22 Tauruses (Tauri?) for serious work.

:scrutiny:

You're "known" for that eh? I've never heard of ya.

BTW, what kind of "serious work" are you doing with those .22s?

:scrutiny:

 I have several butterfly knives and I have never heard of you
 You still didn't answer the question of serious work with 22's
 22 on a man sized target at 500 yards with subsonic ammo is hittable (I have done it) however the bullet has lost most of it's power (thus making it unpractical)
 Prime Condition Huhh.....
 To me you sound like you would be a pretty easy target
 ..........also 22 has nothing on a silenced 30 or........50 bmg rifle
 22's are for fun, not for combat, on the other hand your ar-15, NOW THERES A WEAPON

It is pobably another gun kid.

Every situation with the police ive ever encountered has ended up with alot of BS and nothing accomplished. They would have taken an hour to get here, and then probably fined us for making a pointless call.

Secondly, my aluminum sword is only about a foot and a half. I can now understand why you felt the way you did.

the .223 reference was in leui of those people who think that its not the fact you got criticly injured- its how badly you got criticly inujured (Ie 9mm vs .45, 308 vs .223, they will all kill you)

As for the martial arts...i have no illusions. Against a knife i AM going to get cut, and, if im lucky, not seriously injured/killed. Against a grown man who is 300 pnds i dont have a chance, unless i can run faster. 200 pnds and out of shape? Maybe. Someone untrained but 180 and 16 YO? you got it ;)

NC Super Shooter,

At first I thought you were just someone else here who signed up under a different nickname to play a joke on your fellow THRers, pulling our legs for a laugh but you obviously know your stuff.

You are definitely one bad mofo. I know what a .22 can do. I once saw a guy totally shred an overripe pealed banana at 500 yards. I wouldn't even want any part of that. What other bugout gear do you keep at the ready? Any trauma plates, armored wheel barrows or the special boots that can walk up walls? Don't forget the duct tape to hold it all together!

Actually now that you mention getting kicked out of the marines for being too deadly I think I DO know who you are. I seem to remember reading something about Bozo the Clown getting kicked out of the marines...

Well, looks like our newest mall ninja wannabe, NC Supershooter, has had his ID and posts deleted. Too bad..they were good for a laugh.

"I'm wearing boots of escaping, I'm wearing boots of escaping!" *bang*

My goodness that was funny. :D

Now I think I need a tactical aluminum ninja sword like Sir Galahad here to go with my titanium spork.

No wonder your dad keeps the ammo locked up. :scrutiny:

lmao..
