i called Les Baer shop a couple of days ago as i noted some failure to ejects and what i thought was double feed but in hindsight is still failure to eject where the brass is stuck with another round jammed underneath half fed into the ramp. this was with my 1.5 inch guarantee heavyweight monolith.
I've always had that problen with that gun shooting 200 gr swc which i didn't think much of as it may not have been powerful enough to cycle it fully with the stock spring. last time at the range it did it several times with 230 rn with 6.5 gr unique. the gun is several years old and must have at least a couple of thousand rds to 4000 rnds. i did run american eagle 230 gr for the first 500 rds
i called the shop and was told LB will give me a call later. the next day i was about to take my first mouthful of lunch after a 5 1/2 hour mtb ride when the man himself called. i had been dead tired and slightly sleepy after the ride so i couldn't focus and i was in a restaurant and i wasn't expecting the call at that time.i described the problem to les. yes it was reloads. yes unique is a dirty powder. yes i taper crimp ( he wants it .469), no there's no leading ( how do you know- well i clean the gun everytime i shoot it), yes the brass was reloaded multiple times( should only be used 3 times as the rim gets wider- the cheapskate in me cringed), yes the swc were probably too weak for the spring( i know that's why i didn't think it was a problem till i noted it with the 230 gr loads), detail strip it and clean the extractor hole( have yet to do that to do this to the gun), the extractor should have 4 lbs tension...how will i check that?
the bottomline, i forgot to mention that i have another LB, a premire II, that shoots the same ammo and has never had the same issues but of course i forgot to mention that. the man was a " forceful conversationalist" to say the least. not necessarily rude but forceful. he gave me several loads that work well with his guns, which i tried to memorize and put down as a memo on my phone after the call... no pen and paper)
i will detail strip it and shoot some factory to see if will happen again. i love the guns and the accuracy but you do feel like you get a dressing down when you report a problem. I'll clean the extractor hole(as in detail strip- The breechface and the extractor get brushed with each cleaning) and shoot some factory ammo again and see if it happens again.
we'll see...
