I just asked him for a set for my 97B and he said "sorry, no can do".:uhoh:
I am bummed, I love the Amboinia burl on my CZ 75B, was looking forward to the same for the 97, but "sigh", not to be.
If he changes his mind, I'll be there.;)

Hakan asked me to express in English his current situation... from the website:

At this time I am making a 'waiting list' for customers interested in my grips. Due to the hand-made nature of my product, coupled with increased demand for my services, I am unable to commit to a rapid delivery for new orders. For patient customers, please send me your email address and an idea of what you would like to order. I will add your name and email to my list and contact you as soon as other orders have been filled.

Hakan makes grips in the time left after a full-time job (wood working) and being the father of his family. His remaining time is spent making these grips.

The main point: wood supplies may come and go, but TIME is the most precious commodity for any of us. If Hakan's grip making is slower at this time because he is working to feed his wife and child, then I say he's doing the right thing.

We've talked about ways he could ramp up production, and surprises always seem to be lurking in him - just look at 45R's grips. I have no doubt Hakan will scale, and we will all benefit.

Each set seems better made than the last, and they are all keepers! I recommend you get on his list [ website ] if you want a set, and then TRY forget about them until they arrive!

I may offer a set of my Amboinia CZ 75 Grips - those offered above - for sale here in a THR auction. Proceeds to CRPA or a gun rights organization of Hakan's choice. PM if interested.

Thanks to all !

Thanks to all of you for the kind and supportive words...and thanks to you Sven for your post :)

Sven has pretty much summed it up.The problem has been the lack of time since just about from the beginnig.Being under constant threat for about a year now for getting laid-off from my main job got me little panicked and I overbooked myself...and my main job seems to be still rolling in a slow pace.......for the time being.

I did make couple of CZ97 grips but, at the same time I found out that I used too much time carving them.I was never 100%sure if they were to fit 100% problem free...this was simply due to lacking of the particular gun to work and test the grips before shipping.I couldn't take the chance to send something like that first of all for the reputation of my work and, maybe use hours of vauable time to correct the returned set.I just had to drop the whole CZ97 project for the time being... at least untill I catch up with the work I'm already behind.

Making of Ruger MarkII grips are comperasively easier than the duplication of CZ97B grips.Couple of original MarkII grips and few pics was enough for that but it isn't same for the CZ97 panels.

I hope and ask for everyone's understanding of my sutiation and thanking in advance :)

Best Regards,

Hakan Pek.

Hello Hakan,

Hate to add any more fuel to the fire, but...

Have you ever given thought or tried to make grips for a Makarov?

I imagine they would be very labor intensive.
Just can't think of anyone better for wood grips. :D

>>Just can't think of anyone better for wood grips<<

Plus, there's a bizzillion of them out there just screaming for Harkan's grips!! (including mine)

Hey..Thanks guys :)

I hope I won't be misunderstood because of my post.I was just giving my best shot to explain the reason for the delays and not being able to make certain grips..I wasn't complaining and I REALLY do appreciate the support.

I've been asked to make Makarov grips also and I did consider duplicating them.I was offered to sent grips to use as a pattern also. But, the integrated three piece structure and the awkward grip screw hole positioning on those grips made the need for the actuall gun absolute necassity...so as you can guess I had to give up that project too.

Again..I really do appreciate all the support and attention...after all,I might have to ask you folks for more if the job situation changes for the worse in the future.

Thanks again for everything :)

Regards,

Hakan.

We will do everything we can to support you in your cause. Twust Us!

You make the best grips known to man....Ive spent 100$ on grips for my 1911's (before you made them) and my dads BHP..were more than that !

The quality of the grips are beyond first rate as is his dedication to his family, self and his customers. Just keep doing what your doing.

Remember You cant satisfy 100% of the people 100% of the time...you'll drive yourself NUTS trying to do that one.

Shoot well..........buddy

Hakan, have you done any Officer's ACP grips yet?

Because I just received some beautiful burl walnut, maple, and osage orange boards that should get sent to Norway... :D

As soon as I get the lighting right...

I'm gonna wet or alcohol stain some of these beautiful pieces of wood and take pics. I'll post them here, I haven't seen such gorgeous grain and patterns since I last looked at a presentation grade shotgun.

(Associate of mine is selling off his garage woodshop and all the lumber that went with it. He made wooden presentation pens and chain pull handles for ceiling fans and lights. I got the smaller wood boards)

Sure I have..

Ain't those the Compact 1911 size??

Not many but, made a few. Here is the most recent one..still on its way to the new owner.

Is the wood you mentioned on its way here yet :)

E mail me..let's talk about it :)

Hakan

Hey those are my grips! Hakan you devil! Spreading those sexy pictures around before I even get to mount them on my pistol.

But yes guys they are for an officers framed 1911, in fact it is for my Series 1 Kimber Compact Aluminum Stainless. I promise that as soon as they arrive, I will post pictures of them on the Kimber, as well as the set I already have for my Colt Sistema-IDPA gun.

I will say this, Hakan is a true artist. The skill and pride he takes in his work is worth the wait, and the cost is very reasonable considering the work he does. But what is this I hear about Browning Hi Power grips? Hakan are you holding out on me?:D

I was in more of a picture taking mood today. Cheers!!

I don't have the pic handy, but as I mentioned in another thread, I am the proud owner of the prototype Hakan Pek Colt Pocket Nine grips (Xtreme Blackout), as well as a set of flame birch 1911 grips similar to 45R's.

The man is a true craftsman, and a true gentleman to boot.

I want some of those grips. Hmm, but my carry gun has LaserGrips that I want to keep on it.

Ah! Guess I just found a reason for another 1911! :D

I have a really nice set of Hakan grips on my CZ 75B. Very pretty. My best friend liked them enough to order some Hakans for his 85 Combat. I may replace the grips on my 1911 with some Hakan grips and if I ever buy any more 1911 grips for a new 1911 (when I get another) I will put Hakan's grips on.

Hakan, one suggestion (I hope this doesn't make me too unpopular). You charge about the same for your nice hand made grips that a set of nice factory grips go for. How much would you have to raise your prices to enable yourself to do this full-time in lieu of your full-time job. A slight increase in price, and more production due to the extra hours available, and you might make enough to cover your lost income. I'm sure you've already thought about that and obviously you didn't go that way so maybe it isn't workable, but is there any way to make it workable? How about training a friend to work with you?

Another idea. A bunch of people want Hakan to make grips for X gun. For some he doesn't think it is a good idea without a test gun to make sure they fit properly. How about if the Mak fans and CZ 97 fans chip in, say $20 each, to buy him these guns so he can more reliably make grips for them:evil: . He'd make the grips for your gun so you'd be happy, and I'm sure than he'd be very happy with the new guns:D

OK, I guess I'm not really an idea guy.:D

Chaim, Hakan, Mod's, Mak owners

I was going to suggest the same idea regarding collecting a 'pool' for the purchase of a gun for Hakan to use as a model (ie: Makarov in my instance).

Any other members up for a discussion of donating a Mak?
(a Mak shouldn't take much, assuming enough participants)

Hakan, what are your thoughts? Sounds like you have too much on your plate right now. Please let us know if we are out of line.

Moderators. Is this (Hakan gun donation) out of line?

Well...count me in. Hakan is worth it IMO....If he had a Mak he could make some KICK A$$ grips for them...plus they are a hoot to shoot.

The problem is getting the gun into Norway..Ive shipped him stuff and they require an anal probing (sorry ) of packages getting into the country............

Hell I might be able to talk my sister into selling me hers...........:D

Let me know what you Gun Laws are in Norway...Hakan.......k? Buddy!

Shoot well..........

Dudes and Dude-ettes, I'd say that giving a gun to Hakan is a great idea - esp. if he can then use it as a template for more grip making.

Thanks...

Hi everone,

Thanks to everyone for their supportive and encouraging comments on my work...I really appreciate them.

It took me some time to reply to this post because I was doing some researching to see if it was possible to realize the ideas mentioned here.

Well...not surprizingly,I found out that it is extremely difficult(if not impossible) to receive functioning gun in the post for me here...some parts can be but, frame is the one which can't be sent...and that is the exact part I would need to have. So, I turned to the inside market here to see if I could find anything and I found nothing.I searched the net all day yesterday and last night...nothing..not a single Mak. on the used market. If there are any norwegians on this board who knows where to find one...please lead the way to it with links and addresses..thanks in advance.

In regards to making grips for full time job; That is something I've considered before(and still doing so) but I could never built enough courage to make the decision. It has of course has a lot to do with whether if it would be enough to support a family.

I really appreciate Chaim's thoughts on my prices.I can keep them like the way they are only because of having a another job. It's also true that if I were to start doing grips as a full time job, there would be a slight changes in the prices but nothing anywhere close to unaffordable numbers...you're gonna have to trust me on this foks.

Thanks again to everyone for the support...I'll keep you guys posted on the issue of Makarov hunt here.

Regards,

Hakan:

Let me just say, that if you start making Makarov grips, you will get a flood of requests. So your problem of not having enough time will multiply exponentially. A lot of Makarovs are being sold and accessorized in the U.S. And there are few makers of wood grips.

I'll definitely be contacting you if and when you start making Makarov grips.

Marco

Yea it's all beautiful work thats a fact. It's also to damn bad that he is so wraped up in 1911 grips. I have been looking for a pair of good grips for a Tanfoglio 10mm, I was told he was the man for the job, but he has no time for them.

So I have searched for someone else to do the work to no avail, so I've just given up on getting the damn things made for now period. So HAKAN any chance that you might consider making more of those grips sometime in the near future?

Partisan Ranger

Hey, my idea of chipping in was half in jest, but if it happens I'll be happy to chip in $20 to both the Mak and the CZ 97 fund (and I don't currently own either). Hakan, are there any legal problems there with owning multiple handguns?
