There is a story which I believe to be true, about a long-ago gun writer who used both his own well-known name and also a nom de plume. As himself (let's call him "Bill Jones", he would dash off an article on how auto pistols are better than revolvers, or slow, heavy bullets better than fast, light ones. The next month, as "Abner Klotz", he would respond to that fool Jones and show that auto pistols are junk and only light bullets are any good. The next month, "Jones" would respond .... Well, you get the picture. The guy made a lot of money arguing with himself and those in the know could never decide if he had any real knowledge, or if both of him just copied what other, more qualified, folks had written.
