Just found and h&r handi rifle in 44mag for $149 what you say?

No clue what I need it for cause I have a 45-70 but hey it's $150.

Your thoughts?

.
I've a .44 mag lever carbine; a Miroku/Browning 92 and I love shooting it. It's practical accuracy is excellent. I haven't hunted with it but would like to where game rules dictate.

I call it my .45-70 Short. :D (but it's not, really; being a .429-.431) So there you go: You may have your Long and your Short!

:)

Well I thought about it for like 20min and decided get it seeing how with ohios PCR ruling if I don't like it I bet I could make my money back.

For a buck and a half if it is in good condition I would buy it, simple to resell it, if fo no other reason. It would be hard to lose your initial investment.

Dicks has them on clearance for that price comes with picatany rail too. From what I've been reading good shooters. Purchased brand new so I think I got a deal.

I went to eat with a friend and just so happened to walk into dicks after eating at the mall and seen a marlin 45-70 lever gun along with several 44mag lever guns. I fondled them but the price tag hurts too bad.

My buddy asked about the H&R as they had them for $199 on clearance for along time and he said someone bought the last 2 today. I asked if another one had them and he called and says yes $149.99 I said well lets take a look. they had about 5-6 of them and after looking and thinking about it I said why not give it a try.

I have a cva 45-70 single shot but its heavy, kicks like a mule, and long. the H&R is just the right length, weight, etc. My buddy says if you don't like it ill give you $150 for it.

I'm going to take my slug gun scope and put it on it and see what it can do. I honestly am kinda regretting buying it but I got a lot of overtime coming up and figured treat myself and maybe find my new deer gun.

My review so far is its nice for the price. I would have liked the wood stock but the black synthetic with piciteny rail is okay for me. locks up tight, comes with hammer spur for scope. all in all its a nice beater gun IMO.

I did like the performance the 45-70 does on deer but that things like carrying a tank.

Your 45-70(.458") and 44 magnum(.429) are two completely different calibers, they wont share powder, primers or bullets unfortunately. But Hey, $150 isn't a bad price and it will give you the chance to spend twice what you paid for it to start reloading. New turret, dies, bullet mold, primers, powder and some starline brass. How fun! Magnum calibers really do shine in a long barrel. Get a $75 chrono to see what that thing is really capable of with some W296 or lilgun. Yes, a $150 impulse buy turns into quite an investment once you get all your pieces and parts.

I love my .357 Trapper and wish I would have gotten one in .44 before H&R went away...

We normally break out the .357 around the campfire and have informal shoot offs went camping in the desert or the mountains.

I hope you enjoy your rifle.

I thought about that buy hey it may replace the 45-70.

My buddy already said he will buy it if I don't like it. Dies, powder and primers aren't really that much if I can sell him all that or the rounds with the gun.

The 44 MAG is a good caliber to invest in IMHO. I see a revolver in your future.:D Especially if you already reload for the rifle as quality factory ammo can be on the pricey side. I reload many K of lead SWC and then shoot them up every year. I started out with a Ruger Super Blackhawk SS 10" and now have that barrel for a Handi Rifle (added it to a 30-06 model) and a S&W 29. I will buy another 44 if the price is good in a heartbeat. It is one of those calibers that is just all around good---especially if you reload for it.;) IMHO everyone should own either a good (mordern)44 MAG or 45 Colt revolver/rifle combo. I have both calibers BTW.

I'm really liking how light and carbine'ish it is. I put it next to the cva stalker 45-70 and the cva is huge compared to the H&R.

Putting my Nikon 2-7 on it today and hunting up some lever evolution rounds and seeing what she can do.

The H&R Handi rifles i have owned were great shooters, still have one in 45-70 and my favorite, AAC 300 Blackout. The Blackout and a Nikon 3x AR.223 scope took a 350 pound Texas Boar with a single shot. A .44 mag would be quite versatile on the game and the conditions where it excells.

well upon cleaning my new rifle last night I noticed a warning on the gun saying only 357 and shotgun barrels can be used. I'm a bit disappointed but hey for $150 I'm not going to complain. sure would have been nice to throw a 17hmr barrel or 243 barrel on it.

17HMR will be fine on that action. Just not the high power center fire rifle rounds.

I agree. Having a pistol and the matching rifle is a cool idea. Especially in .44 mag or .357. Very fun to shoot and usable. Maybe even .45lc. Although I suppose it is tough to find one accurrate load for both if you are a handloader.
