Dick's sporting goods has a few new old stock H&R handi's I bought a 35 Whelen this week for $149 . My lovely wife says I'm not allowed to go into a sporting goods store alone anymore I went in for 22 ammo  this should be a thumper

Synthetic . Since production ended 2 years ago you can't be too picky .. I gave more than that in 93 for my first handirifle

My Handi is a AAC 300 Blackout with a sporting stock set in camo rather than the tactical set that comes with it. Scoped with a 3x AR scope it is a tack driver with 125 gr ammo. I have taken some nice hogs with it including the biggest I have shot at over 350 pounds (one shot). I have or have had Handi's in 45-70, 223, 38-55 and the 300. great shooters too bad they got dumped by the Know it all's at Remington.
Congrats on yours it should be a real thumper.

I bet! A thumper for sure momma!

Love the Handi Rifles, too bad they've done away with them. I'd love one in .30-06.

The CVA break action rifles are even better, though sadly they aren't made in the US like the Handi was. I have a 35 Remington I bought from Buds for <$200 that is an amazing shooter. The trigger is much better than the Handi ever was.

I have a number of Handis. They are fine guns with the right tuning.

However, the CVA scout and hunter are very much better guns for the money. They usually include a scope mount and rings, a decent trigger and a free hammer spur. I just wish they made them in .357 Mag.

Regarding the .35 Whelan, learn to down load this to .35 remington ballistics and enjoy an outstanding woods gun.

I did the same with a 44mag a few months back. I see the price and said screw it and got it. I already have 3 other deer guns so im thinking of selling it off to pay off a credit card.

it is a tack driver though. 75 yards it shoots 3 almost touching with reloads.

I keep seeing those guns and am looking for a caliber that interests me. Too bad I haven't seen a pistol caliber gun yet. I would love a 10mm, 357, or even better a 32 caliber of any flavor.

What is a handi worth? I had a chance to but a .45-70 and I'll look of it is still in inventory.

A .45-70?

$150 to $250 for the barrel (over $300 for a Buffalo Classic)
$50-$60 for the receiver
$35-$50 for the stock set. ($150 if it is the Buffalo Classic)

Sounds great!
I'm tapped out at the moment, however.
Snagged TWO Walmart "Remilin" .45/70's at $299. Mailed in the documents for the $50 rebates Friday.

Great price.
IIRC, I paid $135 for my synthetic 30-30 (open sights, ejector) about 20 years ago. (+ $65 each for the 357 and .410 barrels to be fitted)

Handi-Rifles are,,, well,,, just so danged handy.

Handi-Rifles are,,, well,,, just so danged handy.

I have one in .22 LR (Sportster) and one in .357 Magnum,,,

I've considered getting another one chambered for something exotic,,,
Maybe 500 S&W or 45-70.

If I did it would just be a novelty rifle,,,
It probably wouldn't see 100 rounds through it.

Nice snag my friend,,,
$149.00 for any new centerfire is a bargain.

There were some problems with the .35 Whelen guns. Make sure yours isn't one of the bad ones. I passed on the caliber for that reason.

also look at the rifling on yours and make sure its good. I purchased one and got to B.S. with the sales guy and didn't think to look down the bore. I got home and showed my buddy who dabbles in gun smithing and he says its got bad chatter marks from the tooling 6-8 inches up the barrel and there was huge burs of metal hanging off the rifling from chamber to muzzle. I called dicks and they said bring it back and I looked over 3 more that had the same issue until I found mine without issues.

I love the H&R platform for both rifles and shotguns.

PLEASE make sure there is FULL engagment of the breech lock. Some guns, especially Remlin production, just barely latch, and that is a science experiment I don't want happening right in front of my face.
