So, after doing a bit of horse trading over the last month and a bit of credit card bashing, I am pretty happy with my new trio of carry guns.

My original PX4 Storm Subcompact that I put Trijicon's on a few years back and extended the grip for my big hand has been joined by;

- Sig P229 Legion
- PX4 Storm Compact

The Sig is just a fantastic shooter and takes the big brother spot in the trio. The Storm Compact that I picked up today is a bit smaller and will be getting a trigger job, Triji's and a few other goodies.

Here is a pic of my babies;

The more I mess with the PX4 Storm Subcompact the more I am impressed with its flexibility.

The ability to go from 13 to 15 to 17 round magazines in a format that is both easy to carry with the short barrel and easy to grip wth my big hands.

I can't wait to mess around with the compact version.

Nice guns!! First off will admit I'm a hug fan if sigs but the PX4 storms seem to be underrated although never have shot one. Always heard that they shoot pretty well. Also not been a big fan of the controls for the beratta but I think they now have options of how you can get the setup, correct me if I'm wrong. How would you compare the trigger to the legion? Probably not fair to the legion as that's as good as you'll get out of the box. But curious overall on the smoothness of the action. Always liked the size of the PX4 Storm compact.

Question, if you could only have one of the storm, which would you choose, the sc or the compact and why? Thx

Maria - there is a link above that gives the breakdown of the enhancements to the Legion series.

Tex - tough question. I would probably steer most people to the compact version to take advantage of the rotating barrel design which reduces felt recoil and should help you stay on target better. That said I have a real soft spot for the subcompact model. I have owned tie for a long time and it is a very easy carry option for me.

That said, I am a bigger guy (6'6" 235 lbs) so carrying a more bulky gun is not an issue for me either at the appendix or lower back positions that I prefer. The short nose of the subcompact makes carrying it at the appendix position very comfortable. Also, I have the X-grip for it and can use 13,15 or 17 round magazines which makes it a really versatile carry pistol. This may be possible with the compact version but I have not had it long enough to make any changes.

Trigger pull is, of course, better on the Sig. However, I have no complaints about either of the Storms triggers. I will be installing the lighter pull D spring this weekend to see if I like that better. I also purchased the "stealth" safety levers from Beretta and will do the "G" conversion to each as well.

There are a lot of options with the PX4 line, stealth levers, 3 different thumb release sizes, blackstrap options that make it work for just about any shooter type. I did add Trijicon night sights to my subcompact, but the stock sights are not bad.

Here is the deal as I see it; while I love and will always have my Sig's, the PX4's are a nice secondary option. For the money (Compact can be had just about anywhere for $525-$550 - and the other versions - full size and subcompact are about the same price) the PX4 is a stellar buy. I could easily see someone having one of each size for HD, CCW and backup. Face it, for the price of one Sig I can have two PX4's.

All in all, if you consider a gun "platform" where all models operate in the same fashion this is a really affordable and highly underrated gun.

The other interesting note about this combo;

Once I convert the PX4's from F to G (decock only) they will function exactly like my Sig's.

Second, the barrel length graduating from the PX4 subcompact all the way through my (not pictured) P226 Sig, is almost an exact 1/4 inch gun to gun. Not sure why, but I really like these aspects.

Nice guns man. Can you explain what a legion 229 offers over the standard 229's.

The Legion has many upgrades from the standard 229. The biggest difference is the srt along with the trigger action. Sig has done an excellent job of producing a very smooth trigger pull in da that while feels lighter, it is not, just much smoother. When you compare the da to the standard 229 you can feel much more "stacking", the legion is smooth as butter. The sa w/ the srt is fantastic but you can get a number of 229 variants with the srt included, if not, it's about a $60 drop in. The reset on the legion is really short/crisp. The trigger action is just really great and that is what overall makes it so nice out of the box.

This gun is very accurate but than again most sigs are, but this just seems so incredible easy to hit whatever you point the gun at for me.

Many of the other upgrades are the x-ray sights, the smaller low profile controls, the frame undercut under the trigger guard, the g10 grips and the solid steel barrel, and reduced beavertail. These on there own are not anything earth shattering but the sum of all these makes for an excellent out of the box combat pistol. Best on the market coming out the the box imo. The gray guns intermediate trigger is nice but not very practical with the srt already included (not much room for adjustment) so that to me seems like a little marketing fluff. But some may think otherwise.

Plus, and I'll admit it, it is just a very cool looking gun.

Yes, the decocking only option seems to be a great improvement storm has made. That's been the biggest reason I've really never considered it.

Great, just what I need, another reason to look at another gun. :cool:

Tex if it weren't guns it would be women and booze! Better investment.

I will second the comment on how great a shooter the Legion is. It is a much better gun than I am a shooter. This it makes me look like I know what I am doing, which says a lot!

My 226 Tacops was accurate, the 229 Legion is more so eve with the shorter barrel. The trigger is worth the price of admission to me.

haha, I like the way you think Hareytoo. I try to tell my wife the same thing, minus the women part.

You my friend have good taste in firearms. Love the tacops, I just added this baby to my collection a two weeks ago and absolutely love it. As you rightly mentioned, these are much more accurate than me as well and make me look like I know what I'm doing.

You gotta tell her about the gun purchases keeping you away from the women, it helps the justification!

Those look a lot like these! Which grips do you have on your Tacops? I like the look.

I have been contemplating a reflex site for the Tacops, but I am not sure I want to spend that much getting a good one and having the slide milled.

BTW, I carried the PX4 Compact today for the first time. I have to say it carries very easily. I tried it in three holsters (Appendix, small of the back and just off my hip paddle) and it is comfortable and easily concealed. Maybe even a little easier than the Sub, since I carry the 17 round magazine on it.

I think with the 17 round clip on the Sub, the two come in about the same weight. I need to get to the range this week and try them side by side.

They are G10 checkered black by hogue; They're awesome and feel really good in the hand, a bit pricey though, worth it for me. http://www.hogueinc.com/grips/sigsauer/p226/dasa/g10/magrip

Not surprised the ease of carry w/ the px4 compact, I think from a size standpoint it is about the same as a g19 which is one of the smallest 15 round options available. I'm sure it's going to work great for you. I think you've motivated me to try and find one at a range I can shoot. Would love to compare the sc and compact. Dang it!!! Just when I thought I had everything I needed/wanted. It just never ends. :banghead:

Holy crap, they are proud of those! Would love to have one of the green ones though. Would really set that gun off.

Ok, so we are even. Now I gotta save up for a grip!

If your Tex handle puts you anywhere near Dallas we could get together at a range and you could shoot mine.

I swapped in the lighter D springs in both the Compact and Subcompact today and there is a very subtle improvement in DA pull.

After some testing at the range, hopefully tomorrow, I will be ordering Trijicon's for the Compact, stealth safeties and the smaller single side slide latch.

Right now, the sights are not visible in very low light and the ambidextrous slide latch along with the original safeties make the gun wider than I like.
