Has anyone anywhere seen any Unique?

Just got back from my LGS/reloading supply and they had a decent amount of Aliant powders (as well as IMR and Winchester)

7-8 one lb bottles of Unique @ $39/lb.
Sport pistol $41/lb and a 4lb bottle of Blue Dot for $140.

Lots of the "Reloader" series of powders but very expensive: Reloader 7, 15 we're $51/before tax!

I picked up some Varget last month when they had 20 bottles on the shelf (ok, that actually surprised me)

I'd sell you a few pounds, got a of keg but I don't use unique like I used to now that I discovered CBI.
Main thing I use unique for now is 147gr 9mm silencer ammo.
I'm in eastern NM.

I like Unique for my .41 cast bullet loads, and am not hurting for any at this time. However, for the last two years I have kept my eyes open for some just so I do not run out in the future. After all, my cast bullet .41 Mag loads are probably the number one cartridge that I have shot for the last couple of years.

This is more a question just because I am curious than because of real need. When is the last time you saw Unique and what state were you in?

I've seen it several times this year already at PV, Midway, Midsouth, and somewhere else .... oh, Precision Reloading.

It was out there for awhile but I've not seen any all March that I can remember.

I've got maybe ten or twelve pounds out there now, if you're close-by I'll share ... I had well over 15 pounds when this whole manufactured mess started a couple of years ago.

My 2017 keg of unique still has the price tag, $196, adjust for inflation, makes it about $230, I paid taxes on it so $250, hazmat was cheap then, $12 I think, makes it $262, and shipping, makes it $280 That's $35 a pound for me.
I'll sell a few pounds for $45 a pound out the door and I have empty containers to put it in. Last time I saw unique it was $45 a pound, but you still had to pay taxes, shipping, haz, making it over $80 per pound if you bought 1lb, probably about $60 per pound if you bought 2lb. Limits been 2lb everywhere for 1lb jugs for the last 2 years.
If you draw a triangle between roswell, Lubbock and Amarillo I'm the point farthest from all 3 within that triangle.
And yes 5 year old unique is perfectly fine. I bought that 2016 made keg in 2017 after my gunshow kegs from 1991 ran out.

N555 ... lol, I am on the lookout for N555, N550, N550, N560 and N568.

Wait, was posting in this thread ... decided to check PV just in case, and I just scored an 8# keg of N568 for the first time ever! Yeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaa!

Had a buddy tell me it is the greatest thing ever for pushing heavier projectiles down a 30-06 pipe.

You da man N555! I am a VV aficionado. :) You made me think of it this morning and bam!

I'll take a keg of n555 next time I see it at retail price. VV powders are expensive, but you get what you pay for.

I saw Alliant powders in a small gun store this week. $45 to $48 bucks a pound, though. There may have been some Unique in the mix. The prices stopped me from doing much other than taking a quick glance.
A vendor at the Gettysburg Gun Show last fall had a pound and a half of Unique. When I got there the one pounder was already gone at $48.00 so I bought the half pounder for $30.00. When there is no ammo in the stores and you want to shoot you at least have the option of making your own if you have the components. Unfortunately, reloading is just not the money saver that we have been used to for so many years-over 50 years for me.

Yeah, Unique, Red Dot, 2400 been hard to locate locally. The shop I do get my supplies at had a pretty good amount of Alliant powders about a month or so ago. Didn't really need any, but, snagged 1 pound each of above powdwers. $32.00 a lb. Three days later, he was cleaned out. Doubt they'll be that price next time.

I try to not use Alliant because canister powders to them are a very low priority afterthought. Like recycling cans or selling scrap. I’d be surprised if the reloading market for ATK is a fraction of a percent of their revenue.
Hodgdon does the legwork of moving propellants from the handful of manufactures to the reloading community.

Picked up two pounds from Midway about a month and 1/2 ago, and had a really ancient pound from the 1990's given to me recently. I mainly use it in shot shells, so the "manufactured mess" (thanks Airborne!) hasn't touched me yet
I like your gunowner to liberal conversation. I'm going to have to remember that one.

yes on my shelves... sorry i promised myself i won't do this but the thread is still up. one of the unique 8 lb jugs has been opened but probably still has 4 lbs. i pour it out to one of the previous 1 lb unique containers. all the other 8lbers are still unopened. i have 1 pounders of the same i am working through. most of my powder was bought after the last panic ended and mainly from powder valley when prices normalized again.

that being said i still saw unique early last year in my lgs albeit around 40 bucks. the primers are what is keeping my reloading in check.

Atta boy! I'd say you are good. That's a good stash to have.

From now on when we buy a keg of rifle powder what else do we buy?
At least a brick or 2 of primers (depending on what it's for).
When we buy a keg of pistol powder what else do we buy?
At least a couple of bricks of primers if it's for large magnum hand gun and at least a case if it's for smaller rounds like 380, 9mm, 38spl, 45acp, 44spl.

i used to buy enough to justify the hazmat fee.so if there was a handgun staple like unique or bullseye or 2400 or 231 apart from 8 lbs i would buy 1 or 2 1 lbers so i have containers to place the powder once the 8 lbers are opened, and throw in some primers. 1 to 2 bricks of spp or small magnum, 2 to 3 LPP, 1LP magnum.
i figured about $450- 500 of normal prices justifies the hazmat fee.

i wistfully look on my free hazmat shipping from powder valley with my last order of primers for about $500 plus at about $32/brick Dec 2019. i chose Win LPP for my LPP so I didn't have to get separate magnum pistol primers.
normally i like CCI just because they are shiny and they were available for equal to win or sometimes down to $27.

then i don't buy any primers or powders for years except for locally a lb of something interesting to try.

When product is available, I try to balance powder and primers. Makes sense to me.

Although, having extra primers makes sense to plan ahead for shortages. Powder seemed to be more or less available throughout the past few years. You may have had to buy a substitute powder and work up a new load, but you could usually find something usable. No easy substitute for missing primers.

Usually I had a lot of powder or a lot of primers. When all this hit I had lots of powders for everything, not a lot of primers.
