Have you ever given a firearm to someone as a gift?

All of my kids got them from me. Son in laws got hunting rifle and j frame plus 22 rifle. It was for protecting the "homestead"

I gave my wife a Ruger Mark III a few years ago. I was the best man in a wedding party and organized with the other groomsman to give the groom an AK-47 clone after the rehearsal dinner. Then we went out and shot it along with a few of my guns. Made for a great bachelor party! (no alcohol involved)

A Nylon 76 lever for my uncle.

A Cooper Custom Classic 57 for my father.

P.S. - And a 4" S&W Model 17 for my father. There might be more. Oh, and a synthetic 1100 to my buddy/duck guide.

I have given away four very nice firearms to people to whom I wanted to enjoy those guns before I passed away. I have come to regret every one of those gifts.

I will still keep an open heart to those I think will deserve the gift of guns, but I will be a lot more guarded in the future about my choices of the recipients.

A buddy of mine borrowed a rifle to another friend of ours step-son for deer hunting. He got his first deer with it and after the hunt he gave the kid the gun.... and it wasn't some POS either, it was a one year old Tika 243 with a Nikon scope...

He just went and bought another one.... *sigh*

I gave a .22 to my son, so far.... I figure some day he will get them all....

Several gifts within the family. My brother and I went in halfs on an off duty piece for a friend of ours when he graduated from the academy.

Look at item #1 on page 3 of the 4473. It says you are the actual purchaser if the gun is a gift.

"1. For purposes of this form, you are the actual buyer if you are purchasing the firearm for yourself or otherwise acquiring the firearm for yourself (for example, redeeming the firearm from pawn/retrieving it from consignment). You are also the actual buyer if you are acquiring the firearm as a legitimate gift for a third party."

thanks I have never actually noticed that last part

Bought my brother and his wife a Maverick 18" 12 GA for Christmas. I thought it was a crock that he and her were living in a house of their own with no way to defend it. She was also about 8 months pregnant too. Now they have one and one on the way. IMO it's unexcusable for a household of upstanding Americans to not have a firearm. And yes I taught him how to shoot it, she is already pretty much an expert with a scattergun due to having a father who works as a professional duck hunt guide.

Yes. Two revolvers and two semi-auto's to the wife. She couldn't buy them from an FFL, so I had to buy them and give them to her as gifts.

Straw Purchase

ccsniper:

isn't that a straw purchase? legitimate question not trolling.

IIRC, a purchase of a firearm for other than yourself is a straw purchase if the person receiving it would not qualify for the purchase on their own.

Before my wife and I got married the first gift I got her for her birthday was a baby eagle 9 mm. and will probably get her one this weekend as she's in the market for a .40

Not yet unless you include my wife. The only other person in my life who would appreciate it would be my little brother.
