The title says it all. Have you ever bought a second copy of a gun because you really like the original one you bought, but the original was still working? Either for parts or as a replacement gun doesn't matter.

Personally I can't afford to do this yet.

Oh yea.

Colt 1911 Combat Commanders, S&W J/K/L/N frame revolvers, and Glocks.

Even a SIG or two I've gotten a second copy.

Marlin 30/30s to.

I'll often buy a pair, one in .45 or .40, the other in 9mm. My only "exact" duplicates are some 1911s that I've one with a red dot and one with fiber optic front sight. These are from my last days of struggling with iron sights until I finally mostly gave up and have dot optics on all my range favorites.

The only pistols I can shoot well enough with irons to be a couple of notches above "I fart in your general direction" or "if Allah wills it" have barrels of 7.5" or longer.

M1911s for me.

I also do this folding knives, one to carry and one to collect.

No. Seems kind of silly. I can't afford to buy one of every gun I want. Why would I buy a duplicate of a gun I already have?

Now, I'm talking about exact duplicates. A full size 1911 and a Commander model are not exact duplicates.

Thought I was going to say no but then realized I do have a second Mosin that I really didn't 'Need' so I guess its a yes.

More than I care to mention. If I really like a gun then I will often pick up a second one if I find a deal. I don't know that I've ever bought the second gun as New though. Other than a couple of 10/22s.

Me to.

Too many to count.
Winchesters, Colts, S&W's, Brownings.

Too many times to mention.

It's not that I ever thought any one of them would become irreparably worn or broke.

It's just that they don't make them like that any longer.
So you get them when you can.

I have a lot of similar guns. I.e. 1911's, Glocks, Beretta 92's, BHP's, S&W K frames and 3rd gens.

However, not a single one is identical.

Right, that's what I meant. Exact copies.

It's just that they don't make them like that any longer.

^^^^ That does make sense in my mind.

Well, yeah, such as these .45s:

And these .44s:

Sometimes I switch handloads, and having a gun already sighted in for that load beats adjusting the sights.

If Iike something, and I think spare parts may be an issue, I like having duplicates. "Two is one," and all that. I have purchased 2+ identical guns at times just so as they broke I could cannibalize parts to keep them running longer. I've done the same with cars too. And motorcycles. I've done that a lot actually, in many areas of my life.

Different thought process but similar results: If I like something and there are variations, I consider variations to be, "safe bets". An old example: I had an adjustable sight stainless 7.5" Ruger old army I liked, so I figured I would also like a blued 5.5" fixed sight old army (and I do). So I have two ruger old armys, different but the performance is so close they are basically interchangeable. I have a small collection of .45 (ACP, Colt, casull, etc.) for similar reasons. They come from different companies and are different styles but I already know I will enjoy shooting anything from .455 webley to .454 casull, so a new .45 is an easier sell than a new .40 or whatever. That limits out at the .460 because my .460 experience is limited to 360gr Buffalo Bore out of a 2.75" snubby, which I found to be a bit less than totally fun.

A few Saigas. Because they don't have a soul, don't need to be babied, didn't cost a lot, and always work. One in each truck, one in the trunk of the car, one next to the bed....you get the idea.

None were converted; I like 'em as issued.
