I don't have a ton o rounds through mine as it is a BUG. In a few hundred rounds it has not malfunctioned with any type of ammo. I've never seen anyone else have a malfunction either.

i just want something real light to put in my pocket. weight is the most important thing. this would be a backup to ccw on the street but i would have it on me at home all the time.

im nervous about such a small semiauto. is the lcr 99% to 100% with fmj ammo.

No slight on anybody here, but I'd offer this advice:

Buy the ammunition that you wish to use and try it out in YOUR gun until you are reasonably sure you won't have any problems with whatever your choice is.

I say this because no matter what good luck or bad luck someone else has feeding their LCR hollowpoints, the fact remains that their gun is not YOUR gun.

Certainly there is some anecdotal information that may be of use to you by other owners; but when the rubber hits the road, it's how your gun digests the ammo that is important to you.

So pick the ammo you want and hit the range! Because, if nothing else...shooting is fun!

:)

Two LCP's here, gen I and gen II. Both have been nothing but reliable with Herter's steel FMJ, Blazer aluminum FMJ, various brass FMJ, but they live with Hornady FTX and 100% reliable this far with that. burned through a combined 500 rounds thus far and have never had a stoppage. Lucky I guess. If the weather hold out, and I can find some FMJ, going to shoot a BUG competition in a couple weeks with the gen II.

Yes, when I first got mine it had all kinds of trouble extracting cases. The dealer I got it from sent it back to Ruger for me. You gotta love Bill Jackson’s.

Two weeks or so later I had it back in my hands running well. Ruger fixed it right up, no problem. The little LCP ended up not being the gun for me. But that’s another story.

Also, you might want to look at XTPs instead of the FMJs.

Just thinking.

I have two LCPs and both are super accurate and reliable with both reloaded and factory ammo. I can't remember if I had any hiccups. If I have, it was with reloaded ammo that was probably underpowered.

Hey Huntsman.... any updates?? You replace the spring & rod??

Yep I ordered the springs From Midway and the rod from BT, swapped out the original and ran a box through the gun, functioned great and no hang ups. Thank You :)

Only have limited experience with LCP but my LC9 is very reliable and the two pistols are very similar. As far as ammo, you need it to do these three things in priority order: hit where it is aimed, penetrate deep enough to get to vital areas and more is better, and third if it expands that is a plus.

The first time I ever fired one it FTFeed. The gun belonged to a guy I met at range who was kind enough to let me try it out. He said he had experienced several malfunctions with it previously.

I have since bought an LCP of my own, and only have 300-400 rounds through it, but it has not malfunctioned, and I've ran several brands of FMJ both steel and brass cased.
