having a problem with M&P trigger, and it isn't the same one you've seen 1000 times

Okay, I'm new here, so Hello. Now that's out of the way.

I speculate that my S&W M&P 9 trigger arm lobe makes contact with a machined portion (Which I am pointing out in the picture with a bore brush) of the slide, causing a click in trigger WELL before the trigger wall. Here is a video: http://youtu.be/NnVxV9FC_Gk

The lobe has obvious wear to it, as in a gouge and some marring visible in the picture below.

Has anyone had a similar issue? Is it something worth calling Smith over? I have about 500 rounds through the gun, and the click is felt EVERY TIME I slingshot the slide into battery.

Some will say install an APEX and be done with it, but I'm not so certain that the issue will be resolved.

Watching your video, it appears that what we're hearing is the articulated trigger clearing the frame...as the "click" occurs before the trigger bar starts to move

I should have included this in the original posting. The sound of the actual click is coming from the 'loop' at the end of the trigger bar (that moves the sear cam) moving back into it's intended position once the slightest pressure is put on the trigger. This is because the trigger bar itself is being pushed away from the mag well / sear block housing whenever the slide moves

I'll upload a video of exactly what Im talking about a later today.

Reading about the Shield, saw this.
The Shield’s predecessors possessed smooth triggers as well, but were criticized for not having a clear reset. The engineers at S&W redesigned the M&P trigger for the Shield ; and by holding the trigger to the rear, cycling the slide, and slowly easing the trigger forward, I was able to experience both an audible and tactile cue that confirmed the problem was solved. Trigger reset is easy to discern and takes place at about the midpoint of the initial pull stroke.

Yes its different than what you're saying, 243winxb. I have a full size M&P not a Shield. This is at the VERY beginning of the uptake, ANY pressure makes the bar slip like that. I don't know what the big issue about the audibility of the reset was in the first place, there is no way you can hear it with ear plugs in anyway.

Maybe my trigger bar needs some more kick (i.e. bend) to it so that it doesn't get pushed over like that. I'm waiting on someone who has any info to help me.

Thank you for taking the time to try to help me though, I appreciate it.

Yes I did post it on the M&P forum. I think the lobe itself is bent or just isn't to spec after being stamped out after looking at it more extensively. I'm going to mess with the striker safety lobe on the arm tomorrow. Thanks.

Interesting, as you originally thought it was "a machined portion (Which I am pointing out in the picture with a bore brush) of the slide" and subsequently demonstrate that the click occurs when the slide isn't even installed.

I think, based on the second video, what you are hearing/feeling is the trigger bar resetting...however, it isn't occurring at a point I would expect.

The modification that is described in Post #6, has been incorporated in to other models, but I can't tell, from the videos if your pistol has had the extra nub added to the slide stop levers.

I'd suggest you bring this up with S&W CS, as it could be one of many an out of spec parts

Okay so now that I was able to take a video showing what is actually taking place inside of the gun, I'm hoping it is easier to understand.

Updated video of trigger arm clicking: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPfDBFr9x3U
Why are you pulling the trigger bar to the side each time you pull the trigger? :scrutiny:

The click I see in the first vid is probably just a bur inside the striker block safety channel. Mine had a click I felt but was not nearly as audible. Either send it back to S&W while it's still bone stock or install the Apex USB and smooth out the striker safety channel while in the process (there's detailed instructions on the net). That is if you haven't bent your trigger bar all to hell from pushing it aside like that.

Does it look like the shepard's crook, on the trigger bar, is not in-line with the cam on the side of the sear to you?

I can't really tell as he is pulling the trigger too quickly.

It looks like the trigger isn't resetting until he starts the next following trigger press. I would suspect that the shepard's crook needs to be closed a bit.

OP - is the angled wire on the trigger bar falling in front or behind the cam on the side of the sear when the trigger bar "clicks in"?

Is there a camming surface on the inside of the slide stop/release assembly that bears against the right side of the trigger bar?
