Anyone have a suggestion for a good combined HD/CD shotgun? I'm still paying off student loans and my first mortgage, so price is definitely an issue. I've been eyeing the Benelli Nova H2O, but assorted Mossbergs also seem attractive...

I'd stick with a simple Nova SP with peep sights, but I'm taken with the H2O's interchangeable choke tubes, in case I need it outside the house. Heck, I could even try it at trap, just for yuks. The water-resistant finish can't hurt, either.

But I know nothing! Enlighten me!

Fish, swim through the floater threads at the top here for some info on "Serious" shotguns. Hit the archives for more.

Both the shotguns mentioned in your post will do the job. So will some others, including the 870, 1300, 37 et al.

The most crucial part's the softwear, not the hardware. Train and practice, BA/UU/R until you're deadly with ANY decent shotgun.

HTH...

BA/UU/R? Google isn't helping much on that one... (I know nothing! Enlighten me!)

In the meantime, I'll continue meandering through the archives and TFL stuff. So much good information, it's hard to process all at once...

BA - Buy ammo
UU - Use up
R - Repeat

What Dave is talking about is the need to practice and gain familiarity with your weapon of choice. It's very good advice!

BA/UU/R. I like it... but what happens when I learn how to use the Hornady reloader down at the club house? RA/UU/R? :)

Lots of info in this forum on "Serious Shotgunning", particularly the "Shotgunning 101" threads.

I happen to prefer the offerings of O.F. Mossberg & Sons for my shotty use. I have both a 28" modified choke barrel for field & woods, and the 18-1/2" cylinder bored for "Serious Use".

Lotza folks prefer Remmys, other swear by the Winny, and Benelli is popular, too. So, it boils down to what fits YOU and YOUR budget.

Among Preacherman, Dave McCracken, and others here, you will find more years of practical shotgun experience than any of us want to count. {No offense guys, I'm 50+ myself. HA!}

Good luck and good shooting!
