Which would you choose? I've looked at both, they are both hicap SA/DA, Sig is slightly smaller, but Beretta handles just as nice. I believe both were reliable according to the military trial (which M9 Beretta was picked). So which one would you choose?

I have owned a SIG P226ST 9mm, SIG P225, and a Beretta 92FS Inox Vertec. All great guns.

Trust me on this......you can't go wrong with either choice!

But say you have to pick one? ie. taking it on the road with you and there's just not enough space to take both.....or due to money crunch you have to sell one of them?

Well, I would certainly prefer to pick something else entirely (CZ, BHP, 1911, Glock, XD) but between the M92 and the 226, I'd pick the 226. In my opinion, neither were designed with a human hand in mind and are larger and clunkier than I would opt for, but both have a very good track record for reliability and short to medium term longevity.

For open carry, I would be confident in either one once I had carried it and trained with it, but I guess I'd pick the SIG over the Berettra.

I've owned the world class SIG-SAUER P226, and
also a Beretta 92FS "centurion" model. Frankly, I
believe its a neck-and neck race! There are some
things I dislike about both; while there are some
good thoughts about each.

For instance, I dislike the "European" grip angle
of the SIG P226; favoring instead the "American"
grip angle of its compact brother, the SIG P228.
OTOH, I like its craftsmanship and supreme type
accuracy.

For the Beretta, you're right its awfully large but
that's OK too. I like the closed barrel/slide ratio,
as this eliminates most foregin matter from
entering the breech. But OTOH, I can't seem to
group as well with the Beretta's; and to tell the
truth, I can't explain it? But, if it came down to
the wire and I had to pick either the SIG P226
or the Beretta M9; I would have to pick the SIG.

I love the P226 and am all over the place with Berettas. They just don't feel right to me. Won't ever sell or trade my Sig. It comes down to personal preference. I'd rent both at a range and buy the one that feels best for you.

That's pretty much the tale. Choose the one that fits your hand better, because that will go a ways towards determining which is more accurate for you. I think two things seperates them in favor of the Beretta. One is that it is more left-hand friendly, which is critical for southpaws and of some interest in you train seriously with your off hand as a rightie. The other is that there are two flavors of grip style available.

I find the Beretta to be much more attractive, but I prefer shooting the Sig. I'd go with the Sig, but both are great guns and if you've narrowed your choices down to those two you won't be disappointed with whichever you choose.

My shootin' buddy has a 226, I have a 92FS. Both are great pistols, but I prefer my Beretta. The 92's trigger is better (yes, it can happen!), and it's more accurate in both his hands and mine. As they often say, YMMV.

Those were ultimately the two guns that I came down to when I was purchasing my first pistol seven months ago. I ended up with the Sig P226 9mm (instead of the 92FS Bridadier Inox that still gives me goosebumps when I see a photo of it) as -- among other reasons -- I found it more accurate and its size and grip more comfortable. I've never regrettted it.

I have a 92FS that's about five years old, before they started using plastic. It has a sweet trigger job by Ernie Langdon, an action that is as smooth as glass, and has never had a jam or misfire in thousands of rounds. I'd never sell it, but I just don't shoot it as well as my bone stock Sig 226. (Of course, it's all relative; neither of them shoots as well as my 1911s.) If I was buying new today, I'd choose the Sig, because the increasing number of plastic parts they're using on Berettas now really ticks me off.

I would go with the Sig p-226. For me, it comes down to the locking lugs on the Berretta being weaker than the Sig barrel lugs. Sigs closed top design is an advantage also. No offense to Beretta owners, it's just an older design. I think the beretta is the best looking pistol, bar none. I hope to own one someday.

In my opinion these pistols are exactly the same in all important areas, so choose based on looks, feel, and price.

I chose the Beretta but I would be 100% confident with a P226.

I own and have shot both a lot. Both are great guns.

I think, by a small margin, that the SIG is a better mechanical design. Slightly fewer small parts.

The bore axis on the Beretta is lower, and when you get it firing it is a real machine. However, the grip is bigger around, and it may not work well even for large handed people. I'm 6-5 and have very large hands and think it's marginal for me...

I really dislike the slide-mounted decocker/safety on the 92FS. The SIG's controls are, I think, better in the SA/DA models.

As everyone else has said, try both. The grip angle or shape or circumference may work better for you with one than with the other. The points I listed above are all really fine points. Both are top-drawer designs made to the highest standards. Both are ultimately reliable, as much as any handgun. You couldn't make a bad choice between the two.

I own both and I woudn't part with either one. The Beretta trigger can be improved with a D spring and my 9MM 226 went to SIG for the action job. I love them both. I have the 92FS Inox and the P226R. Plastic parts are not an issue with either one.

i also have both and would recommend the beretta as a first buy, if it fits your hand, because it is just better looking. i have also found it to be more reliable, smoother to operate (safety/decocker, press check, mag release), smoother DA trigger pull and having cheaper high cap mags available.

Chuck, while it is true that I can shoot your 92 more accurately than my 226, (in fact, I shot it more accurately the first time out than after I had put 5000+ rds through my 226), I can also shoot the 92 more accurately than my P220. Can you say the same?

I'm a die hard Sig nut so its going to be Biased. :)

However I did learn to shoot with a 92FS.

Bottom line either handgun will serve you well.
