Like the title says, I'm heading to Vegas with the wife and daughter. Looking for suggestions on gun shops or pawn shops with gun selections to visit, etc.

I did notice that the Crossroads of the West gun show will be in town while I am there, curious to know if any of you have visited it in the past and if it is worth the time/money.

Thanks, Mike

You might consider giving Battlefield Vegas a visit. https://www.battlefieldvegas.com/ Gunrange where you can fire all sorts of full auto weapons at a safe range. All sorts of historic and Sov-bloc as well as modern firearms can be fired.

The guy owning it has one of the longest threads in AR-15.com history and if you want to know how weapons hold up under actual high volume use. Never been there but the commenters on the threads who have report a great experience. Seems to be pretty popular.

A lot of the pawn shops there don't do guns at all, they don't want the FFL headache. (The Pawn Stars guys don't touch them.)

Are you looking to buy? Or just see what's there? I haven't been to a Crossroads of the West show in Vegas, but I have been to many of their shows in Salt Lake and St. George, I find that they are mostly sucker bait. (Trying to trick people who didn't do their homework into paying too much.) Battlefield Vegas might be fun, but I would be afraid that they charge crazy tourist prices. they are like the places near the strip that rent Ferraris and sell helicopter rides to people who just got lucky.

The local shows have been pretty forgettable the past few years- as another poster mentioned. Basic, nothing special guns 200-300 above the going rate to catch the buyers that wont do the minimum homework. I couldn't recommend any. Likewise with pawn shops, only know of one in Las Vegas/ North Las Vegas that still maintains an FFL and its almost always all junk.

However, Las Vegas is a great community with a lot of fun things to do regardless of whether you are shooting or not. If you are staying near the Strip, 702 Range and American Shooters usually have some fun toys for sale and rental on their indoor ranges. If you have a car, the Clark County Shooting Park is about 20 minutes from the Strip- beautiful county-maintained range facility with rentals (only Beretta products because they are a sponsor) but also a couple local trainers operate businesses where they will meet you at the range and let you shoot their hardware (I've seen Class 3, .50 cal rifles, etc.). The only local shops i frequent anymore (and mostly for transfers nowadays) are Ventura Munitions, New Frontier Armory and Lock N Load, and they are all pretty decent and run by nice enough guys.

If you are looking to get off the Strip at any point and have access to a car, take a run up to Red Rock Canyon, or up to Mount Charleston to beat the heat (It's been 100 plus for a couple weeks now). Beautiful scenery all around and right outside of town. A little further away, the old downtown section of Boulder City is a nice little 1950s type area with a bunch of restaurants, bars and shops, including one pawn shop with a decent gun selection if you get out that far.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will have access to a vehicle, so I may check out some of the out of town stuff.

Mainly looking for something fun to do during daylight hours, I like to check out the local firearms scene when I travel. Once in a while I will buy something, but it's hard to beat the prices where I live.

The only gun I will have with me is small carry pistol, but it might be fun to rent something.....

+1 on Battlefield Las Vegas. Last time I went I fired the M14 (always wanted to see what that was like,) the M16A1 (kicking it old skool, like in Army Basic Training...) and the Thompson (because it was classy... salty... to carry a Thompson.)

Besides that, there are about a million pawn shops in the LV area; you could spend a week going through them.

Just so you are aware... I don't think NV has a reciprocal agreement with anyone. I can't carry concealed in NV with my TX permit.

According to handgunlaw.us, Nevada honors permits from quite a number of other States (but not Texas).

Among others, Nevada honors Arizona non-resident permits. Arizona non-resident permits are fairly straight forward to get by mail.

Hmmmm... interesting. I had planned to just get my non-res NV permit, personally.

I have a non-resident Nevada permit (as well as Arizona and several others).

Be advised that for a Nevada non-resident permit one must take the required class and do the required qualification in Nevada. One must then apply in person at the office of the sheriff of the county in which he took the class and qualified. Renewals must similarly be done in person in Nevada.

It’s not a problem for me. It’s not far to Reno and a good excuse for a road trip.

I did some homework, and made sure that my permit is good in Nevada. I carry wherever it's legal for me to do so.

I would really like to see national reciprocity, but I'm not holding my breath.........

That's the truth. Maybe in President Trump's 2nd term...

I knew that; my in-laws live in NV, we go out about 6 times a year, hence the reason I want a permit. I'll have to go through that link that was posted, I just assumed NV was so sticky about their carry laws they didn't recognize anyone's recip agreement.

I was in LV on business in June, where it touched 109F. I don't care if it "is a dry heat", that was rough in the sun (drink in hand in the shade is another matter). I did not get out much besides responsible gambling, but I don't mind going if the trip is paid for...

Enjoy, and let us know what you think.

If you get to the north side, Frontier Armory is really cool and the Clark County shooting range up on the mountain is a world class range. Highly recommended.
