if I didn't know I would be buying more in the future and, would have to keep changing my name as I did. Savage BVSS in 223, about 10 years old now with a lot of rounds down the tube, still a sub half inch gun for 5 shots at 100 yards. Still get a lot of 3/8" and the occasional 1/4" group from this gun. Savage 112BVSS in 220 Swift about the same age with a lot less rounds through it, never quite as good as the 223 but still a sub half inch gun. Savage VLP in 204 Ruger, first box of factory Hornady ammo through it I shot 3 5 shot groups under one half inch. The other 5 were used for sighting in. This gun averages well under 3/8" 5-shot groups, with handloads, with a lot groups being closer to the .25 inch mark. I still think I can get more out of it. My second VLP in 204 is not quite as good but, again, still better than a half inch performer. I have 3 others, a new BVSS in 223, a BVSS in 22-250 and a BVSS in 25-06 that I have not got a chance to shoot yet. I am busy trying to find scopes for these right now and have one on the way. I have every reason to believe that these will be half inch or better guns a as well. I have a lot of hope for the 25-06 as it is a favorite of mine.
Any one have a savage 110fp in .300wm. I'm looking at this as my next rifle. I'm a bench shooter only and i'm looking for something that takes me out to the 1000yd range. Currently shooting a .308 to the 700yd mark.
I have a model 12 BVSS in .234 Win. which will consistently shoot 5 rounds to less than 1/2" at 100 yds. with 65gn Barnes, 41.0 gn IMR 4064, RP 9-1/2 in Nosler brass. On a calm day and when I am doing my part very well, it has been known to shoot multiple 1/4" 5 round groups.
Hornady's 65 gn V-Max is nearly as good, easily within .1".
When my bud got his 17hmr with Accutrigger and standard barrel, we scoped with a $30 3x9 Bushnell. After 4 rounds and adjusts, we were killing eggs at 100yds on 4x with no problems whatsoever. With no hangover, no wind and a good rest, I can stack 5 shots in one enlarged hole, never measured them though sorry. The Accutrigger is awesome and the accuracy of these "cheap" guns are incredible to say the least.
I had read so much of Savage out of the box accuracy that I had to find out for myself and last year decided to pick up a 12BVSS in .223.
There are a lot of factors involved in shooting good groups from the bench and obviously without a capable rifle there is no chance. The AccuTrigger, while very good, was replaced by an even better Sharp Shooter Supply trigger.
With match bullet reloads the 12BVSS has shot some amazingly tight groups for me. The best groups are not unlike those mentioned above by some of the others. But they are not average groups. Unfortunately this particular 12BVSS fouls so fast that I can only fire a few groups before shots really open up. I really have a lot more consistent results with my 700LTR , also in .223.
One of the great features of the Savage rifle is easy barrel changes and I am pretty certain a match barrel install will be performed.
I have the new Predator model in 223. Took it out the other day and shot sub-moa with it. This is my first Savage and is most likely far from my last. I still haven't messed with the trigger on it yet. Just took it out of the box and sighted it in and shot it. Great gun.
Buy a Stevens, put a Sharpshooter Supply trigger in it, a Duramaxx stock, and a Shilen Supermatch barrel. You'll have a little more in it, even after you sell off the parts, but it will be under 1/2, if you can shoot.
You said "average" so I chose 1/2" - 1". I have some groups that are approaching sub 1/2" with handloads but they aren't the norm. (and I'm not a very good shot). Off a bench with federal gold match .308 it will shoot under and inch all day long.
