While the BATFE sounded a tactical retreat from an impending M855 ban, they are continuing their work on restricting civilian access to military-style rifle rounds.

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2014/12/11/heizer-defense-pocket-ak-pocket-sniper-308-due-soon/

Heizer Defense recently announced a .223 Remington pocket AR gun. Their announcement was followed by the BATFE's 17-page new doctrine granting themselves the power to ban rifle cartridges as armor-piercing with the new condition that these cartridges were capable of being fired from common, concealable handheld weapons.

The Heizer guns fall into that category. While they arent autoloaders, they are concealable and thus, to the BATFE, present an imminent threat to officer safety.

Their other offerings, soon to hit the streets, are chambered in

7.62x39 "Pocket AK"
7.62x51 NATO "Pocket Sniper"

Where will this lead for the BATFE and their administrative actions in the future?

Their announcement was followed by the BATFE's 17-page new doctrine granting themselves the power to ban rifle cartridges with steel cores as armor-piercing with the new condition that these cartridges were capable of being fired from common, concealable handheld weapons.

7.62x51 M61 Black tip is already banned.

The only other steel core rifle ammunition that is currently exempt is .30-06 M2AP black tip. If the BATFE follows the doctrine they put out for public comment, and if Heizer Defense comes out with a .30-06 pocket derringer, then it will be gone, too.

I want people to scrutinize this company. something seems not right. www.heizerdefense.com
A 3-person company with a badly designed website making derringer style rifle caliber concealable handguns with little or no practical use whatsoever reeks to high heaven.
It really looks like a BATFE straw man company.

I have one of their pistols in 9mm with a 45acp replacement bbl. It's a classic case of more money than brains. While the concept of a small pocket pistol has merit, the recoil is painful due to the crappy design of the butt. (I shoot 460 and 500 mag so I am not afraid of recoil).

I'm truly sorry I bought it and there it sits....I doubt it'll get much use. The Bond derringer is a much better conceived firearm, and I got that too. At least it's actually fun to shoot. Just don't use the words "Bond derringer" and "target" in the same sentence unless you also use the word "miss." At least that's my $.02

Thought single shot stuff was exempt?

From the BATFE's proposed definition of "Sporting Purposes" that caused the Green Tip fiasco:

The term “single shot handgun” means a break-open or bolt action handgun that can accept only a single cartridge manually, and does not accept or use a magazine or other ammunition feeding device. The term does not include a pocket pistol or derringer-type firearm.

The BATFE clearly defined "single shot handgun" to mean specifically the Thompson/Center Contender and Remington XP-100 as best they could without calling them by name..

Is it really hard to believe that in a country of over 300 million people somebody decided to make wildly impractical guns and also sucks at web design?

^This. Not everything is a conspiracy folks. This also isn't the first time a company decided to build an insanely stupid derringer in .223 Rem./5.56mm. The American Derringer M1, for example, was made in .223. And .30/30 and .45/70 too.
