I recently inherited this Browning 20 gauge O/U and need help with the model information. It has a serial number 20XXX and I know it was purchased prior to 1970. The barrel says "Browning Arms Company, St. Louis MO. & Montreal PQ". I went to the Browning webpage but it seems that do not list any serial numbers prior to 1973 for O/U shotguns. Any help and an approx. vaule would be appreciated. Here are a few PICS

I went through a similar search with my 12 gauge Superposed. Per the serial # list at the Browning UK Owners Club, you shotgun was made between March of 1950 and August of 1951. Their chart seems to be correct, as they list my gun (SN 73###) as being made between 1956 and 1960. A few years ago I contacted Browning and had them trace my gun for me......they were able to tell me when it was made (1958), where it was made, and even the name of the craftsman who built it!! I don't know if they offer the service any more, but there used to be a link on their website.

That barrel address was used between 1959 and 1968. The 20 ga. Superposed serial numbers for 1960 were 17,061 to 20,640 according to the list in the back of the Blue Book.

Browning Engraver

Can you identify the engraver? His name should be somewhere on the receiver. Also, are you interested in selling the Browning.

Thanks. Tom Held

Tom,
The engravers name is "M Watrin", and yes it will be for sale as soon asI collect alittle more info. I sent you a PM last week.

Thanks Len!

I just discovered this forum in an attempt to identify a Browning O/U I also inherited. Using the information you provided, I was able to date it to ~ 1957.

It is a 12GA, s/n 71581.

I wasn't able to find an engraver's signature, however.
