I want to start shooting lead out of my glock and wanted to know a good drop in barrel. This new barrel will probably be beneficial in many respects and I would probably use it a lot since I have exclusively switched to shooting reloads (but still carry factory for cpl). My brother shoots a .40 cal glock (27) and I'm hoping him seeing me get a new barrel will encourage him to do so as well. I have a glock 30sf. There are many choices out there and would like to hear from people who have switched or know someone who has. Thanks in advance for any help.

That link has had me thinking. A lot of it makes sense, but I am skeptical of the overall message, are they trying to sell me a frame. Its no secret that after market barrels can be made of questionable quality and may not be to "spec," causing additional problems down the road. Again the link makes sense, but this is the first time I have seen such info and am wondering if there is a motive of fear here trying to sell a product.

I was hoping to see answers from people who could recommend a quality drop in barrel. Is it better for me to get a $120 vs. $200+ barrel? Thanks for the info, as it is something for me to consider. I still think the risks are worth it for a drop in barrel so I shoot lead as opposed to trying to shoot it though my stock barrel.

Nothing in the article says that their frame is the solution. They are explaining why drop-in barrels that appear to work in a polymer frame stop working in a rigid aluminum/steel frame.

I personally recommend Bar-Sto who does manufacture a semi-drop in barrel as well as gunsmith fit barrels for Glocks. Be prepared for long wait though. The one for my 34 took about 14 weeks if I remember correctly. I trust Bar-Sto to at least make their semi-dropin barrels with reasonable dimensions that will not damage the frame.

Any of the other manufacturers like Lone Wolf is fine as long as you get the barrel fitted. I have seen enough peening to convince me that using drop-in barrels in any gun is a bad idea.

I would say that I jumped to a conclusion that a company that manufactures aluminum/stainless frames talking about the wear of polymer frames was not explicitly said in the article.

The article brings up a good point, that not all barrels are created equal. I'm super happy I asked this question because now I'm looking in a totally new direction. This shows that there is a difference and that it is worth while to get a better barrel, or make sure the barrel you do get is fitted properly. Something I would have not considered yesterday. I have heard good things about Bar-Sto, I have heard good things about the other barrels as well, but I think it might be worth my time to invest in a good fitted barrel seeing this replacement barrel is going to see a lot of rounds, as I have found a new hobby in IDPA.

Thanks again for both of your responses.

I have used a 6" KKM barrel for the last year in my G20 for pigs and took a 125# sow at 30 yards with a well placed neck shot. I don't shoot paper for accuracy, but rather resort to live (ground squirrels, jackrabbits, skunks, feral cats) targets or fruit for my accuracy trials. Unorthodox for some, but gives me a better feel for actual field accuracy. The minimal velocity increase a 6" tube gives you pales in comparison to the fact you can shoot cast bullets from your Glock. Hope this helps.

I have a Storm Lake for your purpose in my G19. No problems whatsoever and it shoots better than the stock barrel. My only complaint is that it's bright finished and I'd prefer a black one.

Wanna buy it? :)

My KKM in a 35 shoots like a house on fire. Finally brought my Glock into the 'accurate gun' category.

I have storm lake barrels for all my glocks. Glocks have a right hand twist. Storm lake has a left. I always have a clean barrel. they are $100 from TGS.com

Got my KKM from Brownells. From what I see on the pics from CCFraceframes, the barrel in the pics is not a KKM. I have more than a few thousand in my KKM, somewhere between 7 and 12 thousand in the last 3 or 4 years. And have not had any problems. Fire lapped the bore recently after giving it its twice yearly bath and all is well.

You can order direct from KKM. I just look on the KKM web site find the barrel I want write down the number. Call them up and order one.
