Hi all:

I have my bases pretty much covered at this point, so now I am buying guns that I “like” for one reason or another (and rational vs irrational). I will probably end up owning all of the guns on this list eventually, but I need your help in prioritizing the purchases. Please put yourself in my shoes and share with me your rating of the order in which you’d acquire the following guns:

Charter Arms Bulldog .44, 3” classic blued with wood stocks. Just because I’ve always wanted one.
CZ TS2 Blue, 9mm. SAO. The blue is available locally, would get the orange if it’s “that much better.” Love my CZ Shadow 2 orange.
Dan Wesson DWX. Interesting because it’s the love child of a 1911 and a CZ, and I love shooting heavy, accurate 9mms.
Colt SAA .45, 7.5” nickel. Early 3rd Gen with factory stag grips, LNIB. Beautiful.
FN FiveSeven. I find the gun and caliber intriguing.
Colt King Cobra Target .22, 4” barrel. Because you can never have enough .22s and Colt is putting out some fantastic revolvers lately.

Purpose? These are all range guns with the exception of the Bulldog, which would be a “throw in the coat pocket and walk the dogs in the woods” gun. Please share your insights and advice! Thanks!

My vote is for the Cot King Cobra Target .22. I too, was looking for one until my son picked up a GLOCK Model 20SF 10mm. Now I have another 7 business days until I can pick up my Model 20 Gen 5. My 6” Diamondback .22 will have to wait a while longer for a younger sibling.

Thanks Rover! Yes, all these are new guns except the Colt SAA. Thanks for the vote on the King Cobra .22. The one near me is 4” but I’d be just as happy with a 6” if I could find one. Congratulations on your G20 gen 5; I’ve had mine almost a year and it’s an excellent shooter. I put a Trijicon RMR on it and it’s Hell on steel plates.

Thanks Guys! NorthBorder, the SAA is a hair under $3k so it would be the best investment of all the choices. It’s also the most beautiful, if not the most practical. I already have 4 3/4” and 7.5” blue/cch SAAs but no nickel and no gorgeous factory stag grips like this one! It’s also a well-built 3rd gen with none of the oft-encountered problems.

Oh, forgot - how about one of the new blued Pythons? My LGS doesn’t have one but can get one. I already have 2 stainless Pythons which I dearly love, though.

I'd go for the DWX for the very reasons you listed. A hybrid of my two favorite hand guns in easy shooting 9mm. I will have one by the end of the year.

Edited to say, make mine a compact!

I say Dan Wesson DWX I really like that gun and would love one myself. I also like heavy 9mm guns like my S&W 929 PC 8 shot revolver another great gun.

I'll be honest. If you don't put the Colt King Cobra on top you will incur a lengthy wait till the next production run. and it seems like anything and everything in daily life interfers with distribution and availability. I run a small gun shop and our buyer pool has drastically change. All our traditional Fn / Browning / highly collectable rifles and pistol buyers have put the brakes on except for the Colt KC in .22lr. Right now they came "in" from the fields / woods / a permanent retirement from shooting and demanded we get them the new Colt. .22lr both barrel lengths. Currently I have an order open with my distributer for (With money down from buyers) for litterially 71 of the new Colt's. Each day I have another two or three individuals waiting. Seriously !!!! Get the COLT now if your LGS can get a pre-order quantity going.

Done! Here she is…

They sold the 4” yesterday but got in a 6” - I kinda wanted the 6” anyway as it reminds me of the .22 Diamondback I had and sold off years ago. This one’s perfect and the trigger is better than the old Diamondback. I took her for a quick range session but didn’t have any targets. I just plinked away at the 8” gong at 50 yards but it was no problem connecting. The sights are fine but I might replace them with Wilson’s, we’ll see. Funny, I’ve been shooting center fire handguns for so long I wasn’t prepared for the blistering recoil of the .22. Honestly, I thought the first shot was a squib it was so light. Next up - grips! The factory Hogues are fine but this is crying out for some fancy wood. I’ll see what’s out there. Thanks all!!! Oh, I also got another pistol but I’ll keep you in suspense for now.

I will love to go into Belt fed and full auto.... expensive sport what what itsn't

I say go with the SAA. Everything else is current production you can pick up at your leisure. You don't see any SAA's in the condition you describe very often. It's been my policy that if I see anything unique or rare if I've got the money go ahead and buy it. It might not be there next time you look.

The TS2 orange has been very hard to find in the states for the past few years. If you find one consider yourself lucky as they are flat out awesome pistols.

The blue model won't have the hand fitted slide and frame, tuned trigger and bull barrel.

My pick is the DWX. It's a finely tuned sports car that shoots fast, flat and has few peers in that price point and even higher IMO.

Hi All:

As it turned out, the Colt SAA wasn’t in the best shape; nickel can be forgiving when viewed through glass (and, well, I’m blind as a bat). It also couldn’t be verified to have factory stags, so I passed on it for now.

The other (though very slight) disappointment was the Dan Wesson DWX. It was a fine gun all around, and if ai hadn’t been on such a hair-trigger kick lately, I might have gone with it. Contrary to the way others have perceived it, I didn’t find its bore axis to be particularly low, certainly not lower than a regular 1911 with a beavertail. The CZ-style grip is very comfortable and the full-length dust cover gives it a satisfying heft. The trigger just left me cold, though. It had more creep than I anticipated and broke at an even 4 lbs. In a general way none of these are bad things by any means! But when compared to the CZs - it came up short for me. I didn’t get the CZ TS Orange as they can’t get one, but they did have a lovely TS 2 with a 1 lb, 4 oz trigger. The thing breaks cleanly after about 1/16” of takeup so maintaining a sight picture all the way through is easy. And it was $700 less than the DWX. I may get the DWX too eventually, for variety as much as anything, but right now I am just smitten with CZs.

I did some quick plate shooting with the TS 2 and not surprisingly, it was a hammer. More formal accuracy testing will come on Monday for it and the Colt Cobra .22. Thanks to you all for your help and guidance! IMG_3548.jpeg

Nice choice!
As you found out, it's gonna be hard to find a pistol that has as nice of a trigger as the TS2. An improvement you can make on the TS, is install a CGW hammer, floating trigger pin and install a 2nd trigger return spring. It ups the pull to about 2.5lbs but the break is cleaner, crisper and will have a more definite reset.

If you have suppressors, CZ Custom makes a threaded barrel.
