I'll 2nd the Dan Wesson and Colt suggestions.

Those are the hottest 1911's under $1200 right now. If you can swing it, and are sure you want a 1911. Look at the Dan Wesson Valor, CCO, ECO, Specialist and Les Baer 1911's. A little more might of an investment may be worthwhile.

Sig does make their traditional guns with a normal slide profile.

I am with the others, when it comes to 1911s you need to decide how much you are willing to spend. I think Dan Wessons are probably the best production 1911s out there and what I would recommend if it is in you budget.

Just buy the Ruger (which you seem to like) and use the money you saved to get a few hundred rds of ammo, some extra mags, a holster and night sights - or whatever else you might not need. My wife pointed out a long time ago, that when I say "it's only "$X.XX", it's really that price plus a few hundred more. I've got a PPQ in layaway right now, and I'll need a holster, night sights, and at least 5 more mags.......$400 more!

Plus, if you're anything like me, the more you spend, the more you worry about dings and scratches. If you're looking to be able to do 2" at 50 yards all day long, start saving $$$. Want a reliable 1911 that has good accuracy......get a Ruger, Colt, Springfield, etc..

yes i was thinking about that too I will need more magazines and a holster
on the plus side I have a lot of brass dies and a bullet mold
i did look at a few more 1911 today and right now Ruger is at the top
of my list

I have a Ruger 1911. It is very accurate and very well made. The quality is excellent and it is made in the USA. They are selling for $699 new around my area. A great gun for the price.

That's a bit high. I sell them locally for about $100 less.

You might want to check with Sports Authority. They have been selling their Para 1911 for $279. $100 is a mail-in-rebate. But for that it's more than 1/2 off. I got one and other than the sights needing help. WOW! What a deal. When they first had the sale they had the stainless. I was late the next week and got black. Eh.

Get the Ruger

I have a Ruger, it is my first 1911 as well. I wanted a "no-frills" quality 1911 and the Ruger fills that niche nicely and then some. It is a great shooter, has a great trigger for a production gun, and fit and finish is great on a gun for that price. If you want to spend all of your 1000 look into Dan Wesson or S&W. If you want to have some ammo money left, buy the Ruger you won't regret it. Besides, there is just something weird about the slide on that Sig that I have never been into.:barf:
