Hey guys,

I was hoping for a little help. I'm moving from Massachusetts to New Hampshire and want to buy myself a little move present (to add to all my other junk). In ma there weren't a ton of choices due to the law, so hopefully my new address will help!

My criteria are as follows:
-15 or more capacity
-full(ish) size, glock 19 or larger
-cheap, as in I've saved 300$ so far, would be willing to spend up to 400
-used for hd, winter carry, range fun
-9mm, though .40 is considered
I've had a couple years experience and shot a few pistols, just looking for others experiences!

I have a Smith and Wesson SD9VE that fills all of your conditions, and you are only $25 away from the price I bought mine at.

I like it, and I like the safety the stiffer trigger brings while carrying. If you want a more range-friendly trigger the Apex kit will get you to Glock-like trigger pull (although it still won't be as smooth as a Glock.)

Either way, it is a quality, accurate gun by a good manufacturer.

I purchased a Tristar C100 9mm CZ 75 copy I've been happy with it so far... it ran me 329$ plus tax and fee's Canik also makes some other models as well there are more choices then you think have fun shopping!

A quick look at Bud's Gun Shop website show a Bersa Thunder UC Pro for $361, a Bersa BP9 MCC for $351, a Ruger SR9 or SR9c for $411, or if you want to spend a little bit, a Gen. 3 Glock 17 or 19 for $499.

Heck, for around $300-400 you can find a nice used Star 28 or 30,
15-rds per mag, nice to carry concealed or on belt...
precise, recoil is very manageable due to great OEM grips,
most under-rated pistols ever.

Couple 3rd-Gen S&W's over at Bud's Guns fit your parameters as well :)

Either way, can't go wrong.

Springfield offers some of their pistols as an "Essential" package which only has 2 mags and smaller tupperware. They can be had for around $400.

ALso, Springfield is offering 3 free magazines with the purchase of a new gun. Once you buy the gun you can do the online registration which will qualify you for the free mags. That's about the best deal you'll find for an already exceptional pistol.

Go to your local gun shop, introduce yourself if they don't already know you. Explain that you are in the market for pistol, have $XXX to spend. Handle/fondle all pistols in that price range. Pick the one that you feel the best with. Only you know what you like.

I bought a used Springfield Arms XDm in .40 S&W for $400. 16+1, accurate and a good size for larger hands. I use mine for winter CCW. I like it a lot. I bought it from a LGS. You might want to know that SA will repair any of their guns whether you bought it new or not if it's still in the warranty period.

I've tried to buy a Glock before but they must come from a different planet or a different species or something. I just can't find one of their guns that fit my hand. Maybe I'm the alien, I don't know. The make fine guns but so does SA.

Everyone so far has given great pistols!!! But my picks would be:

1. Ruger 9e (economy SR9): $325
2. Smith and Wesson SD9 VE: $350
3. Sig P250: $375
4. CZ P-07: $425

Also, look into the CZ clones (EAA, Tristar, Canik 55) or the Walther PPX...

...So many options anymore for cheap guns, gotta love it!!!!

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Before I got any advice, I was thinking of the sd9ve or sr9. I haven't been to any of the local shops but will probably take a look around this week. Not sure what used pistols go for around here, secretly I was hoping to find a glock!

Will report back after my shopping outing.

I'm a huge fan on the FNH series. I usually gravitate toward the FNX, but the FNS9 would be a good fit too. I plan on picking up a long slide version sooner or later.

That said, a Ruger SR-9 would be pretty cost effective:) Great gun, if a bit, imho, ugly.

New: Get the SD9VE. It's comfortably in your price range, ergonomic, well made, warranty, and will work - it's a S&W. The SR9 is just over your top price, and you can usually find a used GLOCK or Beretta in that range.

Used: get a GLOCK, or a S&W 3rd gen, or Beretta 92, or a Ruger P-series, or whatever else strikes your fancy. Heck, get a used SD9VE or Sigma, and a bunch of ammo. :)

Yes, Get the S&W SD9VE, a great gun for the money and extremely reliable. Like mine so much I bought 2 more for the grand children. I paid $299 for each , made by a company with Lifetime warranty and great customer service.

My suggestions, for what they're worth:

Glock 19 -- Have one, very pleased with it.
Ruger SR9 or 9c -- was high on my list when I was looking for a polymer 9mm, and I'd still like to have one. Since I bought the G19, though, a second polymer 9mm is further down my Want List.
S&W, 3rd gen -- I'm not altogether too familiar with all of the model numbers, and I've never shot one of these, but they're high on my Check 'Em Out List. I've heard lots of good things.

Might be worth checking out the new Diamondback DB9FS:

I have no personal experience with them on the range, but have fondled them a little. Lightweight, look nice, seem to be well made and are inside your $400 budget. I'm happy with my DB380 and DB9

You could get a Police Trade-in Glock 23 for $400-ish. While it's only 13 capacity you could use 22 magazines to get to 15 and then later when gun fund permits get a 9mm barrel and magazines. Then you'd basically have a glock 19 as well.

All good suggestions so far. If it were me I would save a little more and get the gun of my choice rather than take a lesser gun that I would regret in a few years. Not that any of these are bad guns, but they may not be for you or fit your shooting. If it's a potential CCW gun I would stick with the polymers. If it's just a range toy then anything goes. The Glock 22 or 23 is a great choice because it does give you the option to easily convert to 9mm down the road. You should be able to find a police trade without too much effort. Of course, if your budget grows to the $600 range you open up a whole new bag of options.
