Okay, I've already got a .22LR pistol and rifle (both Rugers). I've got the Colt M1911 WWI reproduction, a Bushmaster AR15, a Mossberg 590 shotgun, and a scoped Remington LTR in .223. I'm set with my CCW self-defense battery (S&W 4586 and 642).

Now I'm looking for something else "fun," and -- here's the caveat -- historic.

I'm got some tax refund $$ to spend; here are my personal favorite options, essentially in order of preference (all are NIB). Each one can be had for $1200-$1500. What are your thoughts?

1. (tie) Nickel-plated Colt SAA in .45 Colt, w/5.5" barrel; Springfield Armory
M1A, standard model, walnut/blue.

2. Winchester 1885 lever action in .38-55 (crescent butt plate, tang sight, etc.)

3. Winchester or Browning High Wall, caliber TBD.

4. Sharps reproduction in .45-70.

I belong to a club with a 100-yard outdoor range and a 500-yard range to open (hopefully) in the next year or so. I like to shoot everything I have, so ammo prices must be a consideration. I don't hunt. I prefer punching paper and target shooting.

Thoughts, options?

M1A

Although if you want Historic, get an M1 Garand. Maybe have it converted over to the sniper version.

It wasn't one of the ones you listed, but lots of the old milsurps have a ton of history to them, and you wont even come close to the $1200-$1500 price tag. That's just my thought though I don't know what youre looking for in particular.

If you're shopping for "old" or "historic" you need to look at what's being offered.

You don't decide what you're going to get and then go find one. You find what's available and then choose.

That said, I'm keeping an eye out for a Springfield trap-door, 45-70 Govt. I've let too many slip through my fingers.

An original 1897 winchester shotgun. I am seriously considering one.

You can buy a 50 BMG upper for your AR.

For a little more than your high end, the PS90 looks like fun. Ammo is not really that bad price wise.

If I pick up one gun to just go out, shoot & have fun, it's either going to be my AR or my Ruger Bisley .45LC. Since you've got the Bushie, the .45LC seems to be the program.

If you don't reload, I'd start with those calibers.
