I have gone back to the KISS principle with my "Go-To" carbine. The specs on the upper are: BCM lightweight midlength upper with fixed FSB and Daniel Defense A1.5 fixed rear.

I am wanting a Aimpoint comp 3 or comp4s. I am wondering with the fixed rear if I should get a taller mount for a lower 1/3 co-witness. Or the standard full co-witness. Either way it will be in the Larue mount for quick relase if it takes a poop on me.

I must confess, I am more of a tinkerer and a assembler than a shooter. I am changing that. What good is a safe full of AR's if you cant shoot em? I plan to find some sort of rifle classes or something similar to IDPA for rifles (any suggestions?) For those who shoot competitivly what works for you? Paging Zak.

My only experience is with a EOTech and absolute co-witness with flip front and rear. It was fine I just have moved away from flips for this rifle. With fixed rear can I hold my head up and "float" the dot above the front sight? Or will it lower to the FSB?

I was recently put in a situation where I could only grab one pistol and one rifle and had to leave my house. This was my one rifle out of 4 other AR-15's, AR-10, FN PBR...you get the idea. (The pistol was my G30SF for those interested) It is that important to me. I want to keep it simple. Reliability is paramount. Money is not an issue. This is my SHTF/Zombie/or just take my son to the range gun. This gun gets more use than any other centerfire rifle in my collection.

Any other thoughts, tips, etc. will be appreciated.

Thanks

I like the lower 1/3 co-witness. When I'm shooting I don't even see the sights, but if the Aimpoint goes down (or is at the wrong power setting) I can drop my head a fraction of an inch and have irons.

I do a local rifle match here in Portland, OR. The best place I know of to meet other shooters is the 'hometown' forum on ar15.com Check there for local rifle matches.

It'll float over the FSP.

I've got a CNC guns A1 fixed BUIS and the stock FSB, and run an EOTech with absolute co-witness. I tried the lower 1/3 co-witness but it didnt work for me. Tried a flip up BUIS, but it just didn't seem right since I shoot my .22 and 9mm the most, and they just wear irons.

BSW, I gotta ask - do you work on cars? Ever end up with a greasy rifle because you took the wrong gloves?

Ha ha! Nope, I just wanted some gloves that had decent feel that would last more than 2 months (Hatch, I'm looking at you) and be under $100. Stopped in my local Autozone for some car parts and they had the Mechanix gloves for $16.

Since we shoot in a rock quarry and I'm shooting an AK, I really want gloves to protect my soft, delicate hands. BSW

If you are using a Larue mount then your only option is a lower 1/3. They don't make anything else for the Aimpoint M3 and M2.

I prefer the exact cowitness myself.

Last time I looked Larue had to options for the Comp 4. I thought one was exact and the other was lower 1/3. Other than battery life, any advantages of the 4? It appears to have a lower profile.

Larue makes a mount for the Comp M4 to mount in front of the standard US military mount for the AN/PVS 14 night vision device that is indeed a direct cowitness. They do not make a similar mount for the Comp M2 or Comp M3, I asked when I was trying to mount mine since I wanted a Larue mount, but was told they did not do absolute cowitness at all. The Comp M4 night vision mount is a special case.

I prefer lower-1/3, personally. I run an Eotech 516 (built in 7mm riser) with a fixed front and Magpul MBUS flip-up rear.
