Help! My Marlin Model 60 Is Not Firing!

I took my Marlin out yesterday and ran a whole brick through it, with many Failures-To-Fire. No jams, FTE, or stovepipes, but many rounds did not go off because of very light primer strikes. The firing pin barely makes a mark on the casing. It's always been like this but never caused problems until yesterday.

Is there anything I can do to increase the amount of firing pin protrusion?

Clean the bolt and the pay close attention to the firing pin channel. It could be that you have a lot of gunk built up in the gun overall. If that does not help, then you may consider replacing the hammer spring.

Marlin 60s do not fail. You're imagining it.

I'd strip it down and hit all the metal parts with Brakleen and a brass brush, then relube and reassemble.

It was doing this right after cleaning. The firing pin channel is clean enough that the firing pin can easily slide back and forth, but it simply does not protrude enough when struck by the hammer.

Mine never fails to fire it has recently started jaming and FTF due to federal bulk pack, my baby loves remington goldenbullets. Your firing pin channel may be gunked up or your firing pin may be worn down. I'd take some measure ments and then compare those to a new firing pin. If it was worn I'd get a new one.

if it is as clean as you say, then you have a firing pin that is mis-shaped, notched, or too smoothed out.
you need another.

Well i'll tell you how I fixed my "bad buy" model 60.
After doing everything that could be done,I found the problem today.
Take a look at your hammer,can you see a mark from the firing pin?
I could see a mark on mine,and it was offcenter on the hammer.
I took a good look at the "cocking ears" of the hammer and they showed
a scrap/scratch on the one side. The hammer had been hitting the
recoil spring as it was falling. Hit it with a file for 2 min. and put her
back together.
Ran 50 rounds through her as fast as I could fill the tube.
NOT 1 FTF !!!!!!!
This was from a gun that couldn't get 3 rounds off in a row without a FTF.
Might not be the answer to your problem,but it's worth a look at.

It's not a junk ammo problem, the Federals are good stuff. The light primer strikes are what's causing the problem, so I've cleaned the firing pin channel real good and after I put it back together I'm going to shoot it and see if that fixes anything. If not, I will report back.
