I'm looking for the smallest possible grips available for a .38 Colt Diamondback. Right now, it sports some Pachmayr Compacs (the kind with the pinkie cutout). But my wife, who's using it as her HD gun, would like something even smaller (she has "dainty" little hands).

I suggested to her that she switch to a Ruger SP101 with an OEM grip (now that's what I consider a small grip!!!). But she loves her Diamondback, and there's no way I'm going to convince her to switch.

Any suggestions?

If trigger reach is a problem, you want to avoid any design that covers the backstrap.

How about the Eagle Secret Service? I had some on an Agent, which uses the same size frame.

Grips for later-model Detective Specials will fit the Diamondback, and although they'll look a bit goofy (because of the big barrel shroud), they are functional for small hands. I had some skip-checkered walnut DS grips lying around, so here they are on a Diamondback:

I'll even trade them to you for a pair of original Diamondback grips. :p

There are some Colt experts that stop in this forum, so keep on the lookout for dfariswheel or GUNKWAZY.

I would suggest that you switch to the original Colt service grips. They do not wrap around and have the slimmest and smallest profile.

Below is a link to a Colt Diamondback wearing a service grip. There might be some variation in the grip design depending on the year the grips were made.

If you search Ebay, Gunbroker and perhaps the Colt Forum, you should be able to track down a set.

These are the Pachmayr Presentation grips, I don't know how they compare to what you have, but I see them for sale from time to time. Just takes awhile to find them. You might try some of the older gunshops, the ones with dark corners and plenty of boxes laying around with used stuff.

Find a pair of the new style service stocks. Adding a Tyler-T makes them about perfect for most people.

+1...

...on the Badger Grips (linked above). I had Jim make me a set of boot grips without the finger grooves for a Diamondback I keep available as a teaching gun. I told him I wanted as slim a profile as he could manage because the gun will likely be used by female shooters with small hands,

I had problems hanging on to my 6" .22 Diamond Back and found Houge Hardwood grips to be perfect. They have an open back and are slim.
