i am getting ready to glass bed the action on my 788, but in an attempt to fix my own screwup earlier this month, i free floated the barrel, but it didnt help much since my action had a slight loose fit(about 1/16" or so) and i got around 3-4"@100 yds. so i added the pressure point back and it helped some but is very difficult to "tune" it to the right amount/location.

now that i plan on glass bedding the action should i remove the pressure point i added before i glass bed it and go back to a freefloated barrel?

been reading the instructions over again and if anyone knows how to remove the trigger group from a 788 please let me know, i removed the front screw and something in the middle is still holding on but i dont know what, as far as i can see there is only the one screw

is there anything wrong with glass bedding an already free floated barrel? i dont really like the idea of shots rising as i shoot more and wanted to make the freefloat work, would it be ok to free float it after i glass bed it then, or shoot it once i bed it with the pressure point still there and see what happens. i ran outta bullets and am trying to avoid buying more until my order gets here, but will if it is necessary.

I'd leave the pressure point until I shot it glass bedded...I've never glass bedded one but I do know how those thin barrels are.

I think it has more to do with "barrel whip" than vibrations...but thats just my theory.
