Have a Mauser Oberndorf WWII k98 that had the receiver D&T (bought it that way) and getting ready to scope it.

Holes appear to be either Weaver Grand Slam two piece in distance or perhaps the Warne m/902/832m set, front sight holes are .860 and the rear are .502+-.001 using digital calipers. Charger bridge is still present. Bolt is turned down in K98 style.

I will be using high scope rings in order to clear the bolt handle.

Which set of sight bases are preferable for this setup? Weaver steel Grand Slam or Warne bases? Second, Warne rings or other high scope rings?

Whichever you like the best. They are both good. I use Warne but it is simply a matter of preference.

I am leaning that way because of review of their scope rings--seems natural to use their bases as well but wanted to talk to people about their experiences with either. Don't really want to add additional holes in the receiver so that rules a lot of bases out.

I mount 15 to 20 scopes a week at work and also mount a few on the side through my own little business. At work we carry mostly Warne, Leupold and Weaver mounts so obviously that is what I'm most familiar with. I was using Warne before I started working in the business.

I've mounted just about everything under the son though and my conclusion is quality wise there isn't much difference between Leupold, Burris, Talley, DNZ, Warne and Weaver. I don't like to mount Weaver, they are a pain to mount but they work great.

It really comes down to preference. I like vertical split rings(Warne), in my totally unscientific view they are less prone to slip than horizontal split rings.

I also quit using two piece bases on my own stuff fairly recently and started using a picatinny. I prefer the looks of two piece bases but scope tube lengths are all over the place now and quite often two piece bases either won't work or give you no latitude to adjust eye relief. I now usually use EGW bases and Warne rings. EGW seems to be as good quality as Warne for less money.

Appreciate it. Would like to go one piece but would have loading difficulties as the .308 conversion Mauser trigger guard/magazine has no removable floor plate. Firearm is in military vz stock, czech winter trigger guard w 7.62 block, and tapped on top. Bolt has trad. K98 bend so high rings are a must. Thinking about ad rings which led me to Warne.
