HELP removing forearm stock -springfield 67E pump 12ga

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a pre '68.(no ser. #'s)springfield/savage/stevens mod. 67E pump shotgun I can't get the forearm stock off in order to refinish it.
Here is a exploded view of the gun http://www.gunuts.com/images/77.jpg
it is part #65 -the operating handle bar -collar.
Any tips on removing it appreciated.

The diagram you provided shows a notch on the shown side of the collar. Does this show on yours? If so, is there only one or is there one on the opposite side???

There is only one, it looks just like part #62 which is the rear collar.
The space matches the upper portion of the fore end stocl and fits to the curvature of the barrell.

I can't figure how the front collar comes off to remove the forearm stock

help please

Well from the looks of it the operating handle tube is threaded on that end. This seams similar to the Mossberg family. They are threaded and the collar simply screws off with a little manipulation.

It can't turn because of the notch in it which sits in the wood fore end.
The whole fore end would have to turn, and I'm afraid I'll bend the side lever.

No mr. harris you were correct!
I'm the dumb-dumb.
It came off as you said, with a little effort.
I'm just glad I didn't mess it up with the other techniques I tried. ( don't ask )

Again thank you John-Paul-harris and the forum for a great job

Thank you
Chuck
