Pictured on the left is an unidentified 55gr. projectile (HPBT w/ C) that I have a number of, for which I'd like to load. Pictured on the right is a regular M193 projectile to give for a reference. As you can see, the cannelures are offset by quite a lot, and their profiles are quite different.
Question #1- Any clue as to the maker of this bullet on the left? I'd like to see if there is any data for it before I start going off on my own trying to improvise.
Question #2
I did a quick measurement, and figured that if seated to the cannelure the OAL on finished cartridge for the bullet on the left would be around 1.175" I did find some data for other 55gr projectiles that are in this OAL ballpark (Speer hollow points) however these have no cannelure, and I'm also unsure of the length of those Speer bullets...... Mmmmm hmmmm.
Any possible insights would be helpful.
The difference in data for 2 different bullets of the same 55gr weight is gigantic.
The starting charge for one can be over the maximum for the other.....so, not gonna gamble. Unless I just seat at a long OAL with the cannelure well above the case mouth.
